primal PF going from 5-10ish to over 40 RP venue ads (with some of them straight up promoting ERP) after this thread was made, I wonder why![]()
I believe the underlining tone of these threads fails to shed light on the obvious. I had always been an avid roleplayer on Balmung and I have slowly started to distance myself from this venue because of the type of people that has overtaken it. It has gone from a myriad of themes of adventure and character-developing roleplaying events to 90% sexually-based erotic roleplay. There used to be a magic-themed academy I was a part of on Balmung that existed since around 2014. Around 2017 I took a 4-month break from the game to come back to the academy ran roleplaying group to it being about half sexually themed oriented. I have mixed feelings on this subject. I feel that the once vibrant role-playing community was used as a shroud for sexually nuanced people to inject their form of roleplay into the community and I would love to see a roleplaying return to its roots. But sadly most of what I feel are quality roleplayers have left for new grounds. It happened in Everquest, Ultima Online, World of Warcraft, and now FF 14. Take my opinion with a grain of salt for I would love to be proven wrong and I probably am because some of the remnants of these roleplaying circles are probably private and closed off from the public because of the harassment received and we are left with only erotic roleplay as the consensus of what people perceive as roleplaying on a mmo.

I'm pretty sure he does but it's almost like a failed comedian who attempts something new but at the end goes back to the same tired joke. I mean, take a look at...
See?
Most people get bored with the same settings, characters and themes eventually. Not all, just most. Famous authors have grown sick and tired of some of their most cherished characters because they grew tired of writing them.
In all honesty, the only "comedians" here at this point are the people still trying to defend this and gaslight by trying to insult people reporting this garbage as having "too much time on their hands".
When the game's story becomes self-aware:

There's been a very troubling and unfortunate trend where actual role-players are pushed out of the community by those who aren't even invested in the setting itself and simply use the game as a playground for degenerate behaviour.
It's a dangerous cycle, since a lot of impressionable individuals feel obligated to partake themselves for fear of missing out.
For what it's worth, I've found that it's more of a problem on the American servers than the European servers. More than once I've wondered if I should go ahead and create a tight-knit but devoted group of like-minded role-players who want to priortise the whole 'adventurer' angle. I just don't know if I'd find people for it over here on Cerberus/Chaos.
