Strikes are cumulative and permanent, if the person in question is not told what they did wrong, they risk doing it again unknowingly, and 3 strikes (no matter how long you went without strikes) and you're out.
Therefore if someone had 2 strikes, they'd be permabanned without being told why.
reading this thread makes me wonder if ERP venues and their 'employers' think they're slick by not directly advertising it and instead trying to hide it behind flowery words and off-site websites and think they're safe because it's not done directly in-game
I have nothing against (e)rp but this game ain't the place for it, chief
also, cerver, I hope you're actually an anti-RP guy trying to make RPers look bad because you're doing a hecking good job at it if that's the case

It's very interesting to me that some of the same posters trying to claim that the GM's are in the wrong just so happen to be tied to some of these 'lounges' themselves. What's even more fascinating is that upon researching the 'lounges' in question, it's rather easy to read between the lines - or find something outright explicit - and deduce that there is, in fact, some questionable activity going on.
I imagine the GM team follow up on reports accordingly and use their powers of invisibility to see what is being put forward by players under investigation when it comes to in-game chat channels and emotes.
I'd advise against naming and shaming, of course!
Always enjoy reading the mental gymnastics coomers will perform to justify advertising inappropriate activities in a game with the audience FFXIV has.
Good on the GMs for doing their job.
im baby
They don't think they're slick, literally every other MMO has had this going on in it and XIV is no exception since ARR (And, to iterate: It's literally never been a problem like people here blow it out to be). There'd be less of an overall discussion about this if the GM's were actually clear about the specifics regarding the infractions, and regardless, these venues will continue whether you think removing some keywords from a PF spells the end of them. So it's a fight you're fighting for the GM's to remain obtuse and vague in every single instance (and there've been so many other instances outside of just this PF thing, it's just the most recent one) rather than requesting for them to be more clear going forward, and if no one really knows what specifically they might be infracted for or what might count as such, then people tend to not talk to people or interact much outside of their circles (which is a big criticism of XIV as a MMO, since it harbors an incredibly hostile + anti-social atmosphere since anyone who just doesn't like you can report you for basically whatever and probably get your account struck).reading this thread makes me wonder if ERP venues and their 'employers' think they're slick by not directly advertising it and instead trying to hide it behind flowery words and off-site websites and think they're safe because it's not done directly in-game

Like, I don't care if ERP venues are being removed or hit. Just when infractions are issued, in general, I'd much prefer a basic: "You're receiving this infraction for breaking our ToS, due to the sexual nature of your venue". I feel like transparent, blunt clarity is just better overall.
The moral panic aspect of it all is stupid, because it accomplishes nothing outside of just defending SE when, no, it should do better. It's just a "I get to feel like I have a moral high ground" argument because it literally accomplishes... nothing, absolutely nothing. It's a waste of a discussion point. Square Enix does not actually care about the morality, shocker I know.

Imagine doing the same offense 3 times. Like for example, if you had a pet named Crackerjack and you called him Crack or Cracker, and GMs saw things out of context like "I have to go take care of my Crack problem" or "Crackers always annoying me when I play online games" and they got you in trouble over and over, never telling you why. If you were pointed to a single sentence or even the offending word youd be able to fix the issue, but in this brave new world of "Youre punished figure it out" you could do it over and over again because you'd obviously love your pet and want to talk about them.
Therefore you'd suffer a warning, suspension, and permanent ban for words that you never knew were taken the wrong way, nor would you likely ever figure out why you were punished in the first place.
What if it's not about keywords, but about the general aura of what the advert is about? Perhaps the event is allowed to happen, but not to be advertised to just anyone, and needs proper age verification.
Believe it or not I'd be absolutely fine with whatever the GMs reason was, as long as it was explicitly defined and they could point to the ToS where it was an infraction.
I'd rather hear it from a GM than some random on the forum making a random guess.
