How are they desperate? They will generate clicks just fine once they start pushing Ads closer to release of the next Expansion.
Makes no sense to sit here and over hype the Next Expansion when we dont even have a release date yet. Which will likely be revealed at the next if not final planned Fanfest.

Yeah, FFXIV is definitely so washed up and desperate for press that they need to release male Viera just to get a few clicks in gaming media for their next expansion.

To be fair, I specifically said:

Beyond? If they see it as a way to bring back subs and get lots of PR ("Final Fantasy Finally Introduces Male Viera!" all over the gaming media, not including FemHroths because they're based on Ronso and they already had females).

Which refered to an unspecified point in the future after 7.x, likely when the game is going or closing in on maintenance mode. 6.0 or 7.0 I specifically mentioned as being able to release them on their own merits if the dev team overcomes whatever it is that makes them so hard to implement.

IIRC when the Hrothgar was revealed, the initial crowd reaction was an audible groan with some half hearted applause. From a PR standpoint, they really shouldve inverted the reveals - Hrothgar first, and Viera second. Revealing Viera first set a soft expectation, particularly with all the leaks and what not. SE decided to let the speculation about male viera run a bit unchecked when they couldve nipped it in the bud so some people wouldnt have had their hopes dashed.

It was the same reaction with Dancer, really. People were happy to see it, then were very quick to voice their displeasure when they were told it was going to be a ranged dps. And that was coming from the JP audience, too, of all audiences. When you've made your core fan base audibly say "WTF?" then I think mistakes were made. lol

I dont quite remember the order in which the audience responded. Whether it was groan then ok, or ok then groan.

In any case, yeah, thats the big take away. People werent exactly thrilled. I think even YoshiP wasnt expecting that response.

Well we have been due for a Healer anyway.
Dancer and Gunbreaker were still fantastic additions, but just FINALLY after 2 expansions 1 new healer.

Well to be fair the healer situation was a complicated mess. They were clearly not balanced at times. Im curious with this new healer how the other 3 will be handled in the next xpac. But thats a whole other topic.
