Deceptive reward scheme

I call shenanigans here because you've missed 1 item off the list of things you can click on to change here and that was "Appearance". If you want to change the appearance of your tail then you click on "Appearance" surely?

There's nothing misleading the devs are doing, they're not trying to cheat you or anything like that. You've either misunderstood the interface or made a mistake.

It's fine that OP made a mistake, everyone does sometimes. But to suggest that how to change your appearance is misleading, when it isn't even the first time that you used a fantasia, is pretty odd. And then all this waffle about being a customer for so many years...God it brings me back to the days of working in retail. "No sir, you buying your entire kitchen here does not change the fact that breaking your laptop screen by sitting on it isn't covered by warranty."

I am giving you notice over how offended I am. I have been a Final Fantasy fan for 30 years, before Square-Enix even had a website. With this move, Square-Enix has killed 30 years of good will. Short of reversing this disappointing decision and getting genuine with me, there won't be any new business between us going forward. I'm not going to pay to for this sham reward. That would make me an idiot.

Gosh it's a few pixels in a meaningless video game, nothing to have a tantrum over.

If you've been a final fantasy fan for 30 years then you would be well into your adulthood, even past your middle age and into your 50s or 60s. In that time, you really should have learnt that "stuff happens" sometimes. You make a mistake, and well, you wear it. That's part of being a grown up.

I first submitted this issue in-game, but I received a reply stating that I should post this as feedback to the forum. I'm not sure why this issue has to become a forum post, but I hope someone here will listen.

I am still a new FFXIV player. I've managed to play through the Praetorium of the main scenario quest. As a reward for achieving this milestone, Square-Enix presented me with a potion of Fantasia.

Now, I used one of these before that I bought off the cash shop some six months ago. I am rather happy with my avatar, but thought maybe to use this free gift to change my Mi'qote tail. Since I've done this before, I felt confident doing it again without reviewing how Fantasia works.

Ugh, I couldn't figure it out. All I wanted was to change my tail, but nowhere on the main Fantasia screen did it tell me how to do that. There were options for changing my race, gender, and birthday, but nothing for changing my tail. I eventually thought that I could edit my tail on the NEXT screen by clicking the X in the lower right corner. When I clicked on it, I was presented a dialog saying that my hair options are affected by my race selection. I thought, PERFECT! I want to proceed to the hair options. I clicked the proceed button.

Pressing that button concluded Fantasia without allowing me to edit my avatar appearance. Nothing changed. Not one single data point was changed. NOTHING. The avatar I had at the start was identical to the avatar I had at the end.

I submitted an in-game support ticket to ask for another Fantasia. I'm not cheating the system. I didn't make a change and then get overcome with remorse. Nothing was changed! So naturally, when I was told that - NO, I have to buy a new Fantasia, I was upset.

Why am I upset about this? Because this Fantasia was a reward for all my efforts, and I was effectively told that Square-Enix doesn't really want to see me rewarded after all. This is deceptive, dishonest, and most notably insincere.

Again, I was happy with my avatar, and I still am happy with my avatar. I would have never contemplated any changes if that reward were not gifted to me. Now that Square-Enix has denied me from receiving the benefit of that reward, and even told me I have to PAY to receive the benefit, I am deeply offended.

Ok so after reading this, I understand your frustrated that things didnt work out, but calling this a Deceptive reward scheme is False. And saying this reward is deceptive, dishonest, and most notably insincere and making a claim that Square-Enix doesn't really want to see me rewarded after all. is....Im not sure how to put it...but it comes off Slanderous and Malicious, over a Mistake you made.
You couldn't find what you were looking for and made a mistake, its not up to SE to compensate you for making an error. Would have been cool if they did, but they are not obligated to.

If your error and SE not paying for your mistake is enough to make you quit business with SE, then I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Hate to see you go and quit over something like this. For real.

My post wasn't intended for the masses; it was intended for Square-Enix. I posted into a public forum because game support said this is what I needed to do. Was their intent to see me get maimed by a throng of players? I hope not. Though, I won't say I didn't see it coming.

There is a misunderstanding throughout the responses, that I am saying Fantasia is deceptive. Actually, I'm not trying to make any statement about Fantasia itself beyond providing some background behind how I found myself in this position. My descriptions are entirely from memory, and I am not referring to any screenshots while recollecting the process. I do not recall seeing an "Appearance" button. Could this be a technical problem? There is no way to know.

Everyone seems to ignore my last line, but this is what my message was all about. If Square-Enix were sincere in providing this reward as a gift, they wouldn't have made such a fuss about re-issuing the Fantasia. To be clear, Fantasia is an out-of-game tool intended to enhance the player's in-game experience. I did not receive any enhancement to my in-game experience, but I did receive a boatload of frustration. ("Go purchase another one!") tells me this whole Fantasia mess is about promoting the game's accessory business. That's where this starts to look like a sham. If the genuine intent was to enhance my in-game experience with this reward, then it should be a no-brainer to forward another one. Case closed.

I don't have anything against the Moogle Shop. I've used it. I never thought anything bad of it. However, the handling of this matter has really soured the game for me, and scorched my image of the company.
