Because of business partners and shareholders. It's the same as YouTube and the adpocalypse. They are running the risk of ruining future collaborations because of it. This wasn't because they had moral issues with anything.

And I'm telling you it's because the playerbase has increased. Even back then there was alot of sexual content made, particularly the first ones making characters nude. As technology progresses, more people have access to modding tools therefore they can create content suiting their tastes. This isn't about people being less "degenerate" before, but more so having that access they previously didn't have. Say what you want, but this simply is human nature. Not everyone is able to behave like a drone, some people like looking at certain things and going on a moral crusade will never change that fact. Additionally, social media has become the norm and people tend to share everything.

It matters in the context of people being able to create content far easier than before. As for minors, they should be protected from certain content. FFXIV is by far the most restrictive game in terms of what is sexual and what is not. Take a look at BDO and any other waifu game out there and tell me those games weren't created with a certain goal in mind. Point in case is, most of what you have described ONLY applies to a small demographic and depends on your server. There have been articles like that from Kotaku saying FFXIV has brothels and the outrage was big. Why? Because it's not true and most people in fact are not as degenerate as you might think.

Because certain communities decided using Twitter to share such things was suddenly OK and SE wouldn't notice apparently, idk.
That stuff has been around for a long long time.
It's been around for a while, sure - but there was at least an attempt to be subtle about it in the past. More recently, it's become something a lot of players use as a badge of honour and seek to actively get others to partake of.
Given that some of the people they're approaching aren't even of legal age, I fear it's only a matter of time before the game gets some pretty bad publicity as a result.
I've always favoured the 'out of sight, out of mind' policy, personally.
Alas, I've had to resort to keeping my house locked to the public due to people, uh, trying to make use of it.

Fortunately my house is bare necessities on the inside because I don't feel like decorating only to move to Ishgard so I don't have that issue. It's been around for a while, sure - but there was at least an attempt to be subtle about it in the past. I do miss the out of sight out of mind of the 2.x and 3.x days, it certainly is a lot more in your face with all the brothel adverts and party finder adverts. I find it a bit odd tbh, tho since I don't rp at all and tend to avoid places other than my own house I avoid most of it.
