Daggers are meant to stab primarily. Even the spelling of daguer literally means "to stab". Si if they are point and roughly shaped as a dagger, they an stab thus can act as a dagger.

Yeah. Granted I don't remember off hand if the animations themselves stab or slash more but back before they removed damage types I believe ninjas were slashing and not piercing like D&D daggers are right?

Though that said I'm still perfectly fine with the occasional type breaking weapon like this that doesn't quite match up to what the job normally gets, though they shouldn't do it TOO often and deviate all the time from the style of weapon a job normally has. But they're fun now and then.
