While it, and Dzemael Darkhold, are both dungeons from FFXIV 1.0, both aren't the exact dungeons that were in 1.0. A lot of adjustments to how the dungeon is laid out and how it functions changed between then and ARR. That being said, the first room of the dungeon is a tad bit unusual from the usual formula all the previous dungeon work with - Dzemael Darkhold included. However, in defense of the dudgeon itself, there's a huge visual cue to the sort of mess you're in for in that first room so that sort of Thal's Balls wipe should honestly only happen once before you learn maybe don't run into the center of the obnoxiously large group of enemies.
Stone Vigil even had an area similar to Aurum Vale's first room near the beginning with several roaming monsters and two separate groups outside of the room and two separate groups inside of the room. Not exactly a 1 to 1, but similar in principle.
I think the only thing that honestly bugs me about Aurum Vale is that it cuts off at 49. That's it. I just want my lv50 ability and maybe be i50 sync'd.
