The big housing problem, why it isn't the amount of houses

So something needs to be removed. Some restriction needs to be put in place to not allow that to happen. Like it or not, a current house owner needs to be forced to vacate their property.

It's not going to happen. You can dream about it but there is no way that housing will be removed from current owners. Not only is that not going to happen but those with grandfathered homes will continue to keep their properties. Any new rules forthcoming will affect new home purchases and not those currently in existance.

The option of upgrading apartments is a good possibility given they're said in the past they would be looking into that and perhaps the implementation of instanced housing along side the current wards, 6.1 should be an interesting revelation as to whether or not they will be adding to the variety of housing options or simply adding more of the same.

The alternative that I suggested is to restrict transfers and getting new houses if you own multiple houses. So you can't move to a different district (including upcoming districts like Ishgard) if your account already owns multiple houses and you can't transfer to any other house in the same district unless it's to a smaller house and you can't purchase additional house with any other character even in another world.

Unless an alt is on a second account or not on the same server they cannot buy a house. To my knowledge, it is one house per account per world.

That's my understanding as well, but you have people who already have houses on different alts on the same world before that rule. Also, FC houses may not be affected.

I believe FC shells is one of the preferred methods, especially as it allows one to transfer them if you wanted to 'sell' or 'share' it. Of course they've some other weird aspects to them doing it this way but for some that's a fine hurdle.

Also of course the loads of people who were grandfathered in; although, on multiple occasions Yoshida has said how he doesn't want to and doesn't like to take away progress from players and especially if it's the developers fault. I remember at least hearing this twice back in 1.0 in a fairly point blank "no, no roll backs". To two issues we had back then. Not to say there wouldn't be a situation where he wouldn't but I imagine it would have to be pretty catastrophic.

Alts on other servers can own one FC and one private house per account. The issue of FC's does have loopholes which some have exploited and that definitely needs to be fixed.

Yes alts could purchase housing prior to the new rules implemented for 4.2. Any who did that have those houses grandfathered in.

It's not really a penalty, though. They get to keep the benefit of having multiple houses.

But yeah, that's just my suggestion, and I don't really care what they do as housing shortage doesn't bother me either way.

"Personal housing" is exactly what the name implies...personal. And that means players can do whatever the heck they want with their plots. If they want to open their house up to gatherings? Cool! If they want to keep to themselves and decorate their house to their heart's content? That is also cool. I don't see why this is a problem at all. They are utilizing their plot exactly the way the system intended them to. Just not in the way you personally would like. All of that said, I would dump my plot so fast if I could have an instanced house in the area of my choice and preferences, with both exterior and interior access. I really would.

I never said personal housing was a problem. It's just that there's no reason to make a housing system with limited, physical addresses if the majority of them don't care about their house having a physical address.

I want the solo decorator people to have what they want without having to fight each other over plots of land. I'd also like the people who want public estates to have their little concert halls or bath houses or whatever the hell they think up.

It is one personal house and 8 FC houses per server.
