Honestly the song just makes me think Ranjit even more, allowing a much easier fit into balance while avoiding much direct control (like a Dark Knight or Machinist pet), and at the same time he does fit many of the potential boxes you might make (including the thoughts on armor, melee, scythe, pet, reaper / death like appearance, etc).

Unless the shirt is announcing a limited job, which could be a thing he is doing now but he didn't do that for blue mage so.. /shrug. Personally hope not because guessing the next limited job is not a very interesting prospect to me, unless they make this job have an entirely different design philosophy (not designed for PF focus, fine others like that- but zero interest to me).

Although I think there is a chance we've not seen the whole weapon (or it's just not a scythe, though it feels like a good chance it might have that curved blade appearance somewhere), not a massive problem but we do have Edda's scythe available in the mog shop for multiple jobs. Might see double scythe, or with chains god of war style or whatever. Also while not a massive problem adding further distance to Botanist wouldn't be an awful idea (I think it'd be fine if you wanted too, but the extra distance wouldn't be bad either). Allowing the job to have more self identity over "battle botanist" or people regularly confusing you for the white mage using Edda's weapon.
I doubt anyone could ever confuse this job, if it uses a scythe. It'd probably be using a big, 2h combat scythe that's far different from what botanists use for gathering. I really don't see it being a big deal at all. And the job will have some sort of identity beyond just 'scythe' anyway. Dragoons have their dragon and jumpy related things they're not 'uses spear job.' Ninjas have ninjitsu, monks a variety of martial arts move and ki based abilities, etc. The new job likely isn't going to be solely defined by the weapon, but how they use it.

For the Edda thing I really don't see that as an obstacle either. It's...one weapon. Not a big deal. Paldadins get a pick axe weapon in SHB and that doesn't cause confusion with miners. Dark knights get a weapon that's basically a longer katana in the same expansion that gave us samurai.

I don't think the new job, if it does use scythes, would have any problem establishing its own identity.

Well that would be why I said multiple times it's not a massive problem but reducing overlap might be something they've done. Because they've shown us just the tip in that trailer, the rest of the iceberg may be different is my comment, as some of our guesses come from simple the weapon being what we think it is, and there are mild reasons on why it wouldn't be a bad idea if it's a bit special (strengthening identity, even if it's not in massive jeopardy, is not a bad thing- especially if the weapon is still cool). But yes it could totally be botanist use scythes and new job uses great scythes, simple as that. Like swords vs great swords.

It's not required, given it's one mog shop item, and botanist hold their scythe for harvesting food and not killing, but it may be a reason why we might think that we've not seen the whole weapon. Even if it's more like what happened to red mage, where they still have their fencer sword but they also have something else. SO maybe a scythe and a bell, or a lantern, or double scythe, etc.

I just wanted to disturb confidence in that we know the exact weapon, could be different. There are mild reasons on why, beyond novelty (like the Sage weapons are pretty special, makes them novel).

The weapon in the trailer could also simply be a long hafted hammer. I really try not to relate potential classes to enemies or NPCs we see in game before the expasion. Using such in game relationship, Chemist was a shoe in for healers but that is obviously incorrect.

Yeah, people often jump the gun on that sort of stuff.

Oh this little girl wants to help people with potions, surely this is the new healer!

Necromancer and berserker bosses in the dungeon, new jobs?!

Beastmasters in Bozja, must be coming next!

It should all be taken with a grain of salt. Hell, even Zenos' weapon reflecting the new job is an assumption anyway. It could be something unique to him or something that we'd associate with an existing job etc.

Absolutely could be something else- and even if Zenos is using something else that may or may not relate to the job at hand, that was the point I was trying to make (well more that we've not even seen the whole weapon yet, not the point on Zenos). I mean it's fun to guess what feels fairly accurate but.. new job could use beyblades for all we know and the reference is really weird (hopefully not that weird...) lol.

Also definitely on the last point too, like Chemist you might have Beastmaster similarly not happen- just because it's in game doesn't make it a job. Although unless they decided to scrap limited jobs I still thought they were going to make bestmaster limited. Ranjit is also in the game, /shrug lol.

I was thinking it might be something like, "Death Dealer." and be death themed in its entirety.

"...And I walked in and sat down
And they gave me a piece of paper
Said, "Kid see the psychiatrist, room 604"
And, and I went up there, I said "Shrink
    I wanna kill
    I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill
    Kill
    I wanna, I wanna see
I wanna see blood and gore and guts, and veins in my teeth
    Eat dead, burnt bodies
    I mean kill
    Kill, kill, kill!"
And I started jumpin' up and down yelling, "Kill, kill!"
And he started jumpin' up and down with me
And we was both jumpin' up and down
    Yelling, "Kill, kill!"
And the sergeant came over, pinned a medal on me
Sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy" "

It would be very dumb to add a Job based on Ran'jit, so I sincerely doubt it will be based on him.

We've got three eastern themed melee DPS already, we don't need a fourth. Also, nothing about Ran'jit suggests a Job at all, the guy is built wholly unlike any particular class but is hybridized and original, the kind of custom work that reflects a boss monster, not a Job with a rotation. And I find it really hard to get excited about his attack patterns, since my only experience with them was utterly crushing him in a one on one duel as Thancred. There's a lot of reasons why not to build a Job around this guy.

I think it will be a ffxiv original job that uses a scythe. It wont be a necromancer simply due to it being taboo in Japan and China to raise the dead. Necro are usually western classes in games. If it was necromancer China would not have it in their version of the game which would be a huge waste of development.

I recall when WoW added death knights years back they had to heavily censor stuff for the chinese version. It may have even been the undead player models too?

Even then if it wasn't taboo I just don't see them going any edgier than DRK and having the WOL raise the dead in THIS game even if it wasn't a cultural taboo.

It is more-so that they want the job, than actually believing it will happen.

That is why so many are guessing it imo.

I could care less about the occult jobs in mmo, or occult $hit in general. I don't delve into that $hit. A lot of it may stem from former FFXI players knowing that PUP was originally designed to be that class in 11; or so they say. That is basically the undead swarm in 11.

It could be a pet class. Lost Ark's summoner does not really have some pet following it around; but rather, functions like a flashy ability from a dps. Instead of a sword swipe or fist blow effect, a huge monster appears. My favorite is the huge foot of a giant that leaves a foot print as it walks off screen lol.

BDO does it too, with the Female Striker. Her Dragon appears as part of an attack, then leaves. Many new mmo are getting away from the static pets it seems.
