I think Zonureskin maps are by far the worst party map for it's respective release.
I've been making more profit by just gathering and running Wyvernskin/ Gaganaskin / Peisteskin maps than I was spending hours grinding Zonureskin maps.

Definitely wasn't the case for Stormblood and Gazelle skin maps, I made BANK doing this in 4.0

It really doesn't help that the end reward of raw gil is halved for the Zonureskin roulette dungeon for seemingly no reason, as well as there not being any 5.0 equivalent to thieves maps.

You can hope for Calf Leather or the art emote or end up with a bunch of over saturated junk.

The common crafts are still valuable, but you're way better off just buying the mats of the MB for cheap and selling the end crafts if you want gil.

I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way either, as Dragonskin and especially Gazelle skin maps sell for more than Zonureskin maps quite often.

With the release of Endwalker, SE will most likely update the prize pool for Gliderskin maps to include a lot of the currently dungeon drop mats for Zonureskin maps.

SE did the same thing for Wyvernskin and Gaganaskin maps at the release of Stormblood and Shadowbringers, respectively.

    Lastly, bot Zonureskin parties exist.
Resulting in zOnureskin drops being more over saturated then they would likely be otherwise.

Treasure maps are currently one of the most precious and limited resources in the game, and I feel heavily diminishing the relative value of the rewards isn't a good decision to make for the game

I understand it is by far too late to reverse the decision, but I had to at least voice my concerns and say it sets a bad precedent

    Just a question, slightly tangenting:
Is the issue that you just don't want it to be available to people in any way other than maps or that you don't want to lose a method of income by selling the cloth/glam because people will have temporary easy access?

I'm just curious what exactly about it is rubbing you the wrong way cause "diminishing value" can be taken different ways depending on who's talking (personal value, market value, etc.)

I think it's wonderful and I think it should be made available in other venues as well.

    It's both to be honest.
Feel free to reserve judgment regarding the latter of course.

Treasure maps are one of my favorite forms on content in the game.
I think it's sad that SE seems to pay such little respect to their legacy content so in this game, and I feel the lack of longevity for content in this game is one of my biggest peeves.

Naturally, I do make gil off ofthe aforementioned Mariner Cotton Cloth as well, but it doesn't affect me much in the long run.

Honestly if you wish I would give you 2 of the cloths right now seeing as how you're on Aether and you've wanted them for a while.

Eh, not gonna judge about it cause I'm a seller too so I get the mentality. Just goes to show the importance of having your eggs in multiple baskets if something like this does happen. And you're valid with your feelings of the content not getting respected, I've heard multiple people express similar feelings with different kinds of content and them feeling like certain areas of the game are getting more attention than others. I feel like the staff is just gonna do what they think is gonna make the most people happy at the end of the day and (this is literally just my opinion so do with it what you wish), I think they're going to try to give people incentive to stick around during the wait to Endwalker and might view giving away a hard to obtain glam (depending on server market ofc) and the mats to continue producing it and making money as a way to do that. I'm just trying to think from a new player perspective rather than someone who's been around for a long time because at the end of the day, their biggest concern is growth and getting more people in the game. Giving away stuff like that would get me excited to stick around and see what else they want to do. (Ngl I did join during a Moogle event so coming from my perspective back then, all of the mounts and minions and free items basically really got me excited during my early game).

Also you don't have to give me them if you want to try to sell them before the crash comes. xD That's very kind of you to offer though. :3

If SE is making players happy then ultimately I try not to go against the grain too much.

I just really have a bone to pick with SE's content design philosophy despite being a hardcore supporter of this game.

Also I really don't mind if you want them now, I have plenty of other venues for gil.

    1. Patch 5.5 will be released in two parts. Part 1 will be released on Tuesday, April 13, and Part 2 is scheduled for the end of May. This has been said in their last video talking about future stuff for XIV. This isn't 'months' as you clearly assumed. This is one month

    2. ARR maps aren't dug up as much, and most of the items from it are worth basically nothing. Good for anyone who wanted to do them and make money from it. Don't know why you got your nickers in a twist over ONE ITEM being made easier to get for a small time.

    3. You sure said them.

    4. Honestly they just might. But they're waiting until it's NO LONGER ON CONTENT STUFF TO DO. They added the T-Rex that you could only get from eureka boxes that was NOT TRADABLE. I held onto 4 extra whistles I got for friends if they ever made them tradable. I'm glad I get to run content with friends to get items I couldn't get them before.

A clever merchant would buy up the easy to obtain sailcloth during the event, and a month after the event sends start selling it over multiple servers on your datacentre for full price as 12 months pass.

All that easy profit for a year without needing to trust RNG and obtain maps.

    It's both to be honest.
Find a way to make those maps on the MB cost less than what I posted and we can talk. As it is, you want mariner cloth? Try and dig up one boarskin map a day, run it and run it ad infinitum each day and never get even one cloth drop..or start spending hundreds of thousands of gil on maps and still get zero cloth.

    No thanks.

I am VERY pleased that stuff like this is going to be available.

I think it's sad that SE seems to pay such little respect to their legacy content so in this game, and I feel the lack of longevity for content in this game is one of my biggest peeves.
They do. the RNG drop rate is atrocious for mariner..been playing for two years, i do maps when they dont cost an arm and both legs and Ive seen maybe five cloth in two years.

    Five.

I find SE's desire to make their players have things ingame to smile about and have fun refreshing and delightful. God knows I can think of another games developer that could learn a thing or ten from how SE treasures its players.

Twelve knows we NEED things to make us smile...a little laughter and a little joy in small things to leaven the grim realities we face is to be cherished.

I agree. The mariner cotton clothes have had its run of being rare, now it's getting a run of being plentiful. When the event ends, it will become rare again. I don't see a problem with that. Yes some may temporarily lose out on some lucky bucks, but people could also stock up and sell at a profit later on. For crafters, it shouldn't matter that the materials are going to flood the market anyways. Crafters sell products at a profit. And this wouldn't be the first nor is it going to be the last item that isn't staying at the same profitability forever.

From wipe buffs to unsynccing content, it should already be clear that when something has been rare and out of reach for long enough, it will gradually be made more accessible. That's just the FFXIV way. And I think it is a good thing.
