I don‘t want to be that guy... but im pretty concerned that ff16 and other projects might play a role in this.
just looking at the trailer of 16 shows us that there is a high possibility many developers from 14 are currently working on 16. (art style for example - just the feel of the game gave me ff14 vibes) yoshida being the producer of both games further supports my concerns. the story of shadowbringers was phenomenal, but content seemed a bit dry recently (even before covid), and i’m probably looking too much into this but i think it‘s a possibility that it’s connected to 16’s development.

it just buggs me sometimes, seeing ff7 remake getting a beautiful graphical upgrade just a year into the game (i‘m hyped - don‘t get me wrong) but at the same time it seems it‘s an out of the world thought getting just a small graphical upgrade for 14 because „spaghetti code“ and „limitations‘...

I have heard this. Many of the veteran devs of FFXIV are actually working on that new FF game. Great for them (their careers), but not really for this game.

Yep. It's been so long, I have doubts we will even see anything, frankly. "Look forward to fanfest", I'm not holding my breath though. I think viera/hrothgar, just aren't high on their list of importance. I wish they would be a little more transparent.

Out of anything to look at for what possibly has us in the current situation I think this is likely the case. If I recall correctly, isn't it known information that a number of XIV's developers are actually working on XVI? If so, that could also explain ShB's being a little dry content wise. It's probably a management issue and manpower (people) are an important resource. The thing that I'm seeing from this whole thing that's been kind of irking me is the communication between SE and the player base. They have no choice but to leave us with vague statements for the sake of PR, but at the same time that leaves the players confused and speculative. Something I've noticed on these forums are the many users suggesting to "cut this content" or "cut that content" in favor of content they enjoy (That thread about the Ultimate raid being cut comes to mind).

Players are arguing amongst themselves and blaming the lack of content on existing content despite SE being better about managing everything on their plate before the current situation. And this might be the cynic in me but I think corporations like it when players start blaming the lack of content they enjoy on content that other players enjoy (Particularly in games like this where content updates are needed to keep the game alive and attract new players). It allows them to just easily handwave any grievances the player base has and make it seem like "Oh, they didn't want this, so we don't need to put forth anymore resources towards it."
