OP: "Calling Anima 'he' makes about as much sense as calling Shiva 'he' "
Me: "Uh, much less, actually. The real, non-FF Shiva is very much a dude. While 'anima' basically means 'female'."

This is most likely the case. I'm suspecting that the trial against her will have some very important context...but please don't let this be a Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Anima moment. That's just terrifying.
Something to keep in mind is that the handcuffs on Anima we were shown in the picture are the same thing as the slab looking thing in the expansion art. So it’s most likely Zodiark related and it could potentially be a part of him therefore it’d be malei highly doubt they’re really going to go through the trouble as to outright say it’s gender though because i don’t think SE cares about such trivial things.
That’s Jungian Psychology, as someone stated before the actual historical meaning is “The Soul”

That. . . is actually pretty awesome. Gives a cool Alien vibe to her. This is most likely the case. I'm suspecting that the trial against her will have some very important context...but please don't let this be a Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Anima moment. That's just terrifying.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

She's not wearing a necklace in the new art. It would have been held by the arms chocking her neck, but it is absent in the new art created for her. This is why you couldn't make it out.

Plot twist - It's going to be our worlds Minfilia.
Uh no? It's literally a feminine word in Latin, with animus being the masculine word it is derived from. Meaning is irrelevant.

I know it may seem odd to English speakers, but in many other languages like Latin, words themselves do have genders. In the case of the Latin word "anima", the word itself is grammatically feminine, regardless of the actual meaning of the word. For example, the French word for window is feminine as well, even though an inanimate object like a window isn't really something specifically female or related to females.
Of course, does that mean they HAVE to make Anima a female if they call it Anima? No, it's a fantasy game and they can do whatever they want. If they can make a fish a dragon (see Bahamut), then they can use a feminine word for a male entity if they really want to.

Especially since Japanese people don't communicate in Latin, so word gender in Latin is irrelevant. It's more relevant that this specific Anima is referencing an entity that was female in a prior game in the franchise, but even that doesn't have to be transferred to FFXIV.
Why does this even have to matter? Anima is amazing and I'm pumped to see her in 14.
(Also for the record Leviathan was made female in FF15, so the opposite could very well happen here.)
