I am hoping we at least get a time skip after 6.0 so the twins can grow up a little bit. It must be annoying for them to be children for all time.

After? Nah.
I'll eat my chocobo if we don't get at least an interactive flashback to Amaurot's End of Days.
And while that's at best "mental time travel", a full on travel-back-to-the-past trip isn't completely out of the question.
I wouldn't mind time travel if that takes us back to a time when male Viera existed haha.
Well if we get a Towel of Bab-il and Giant of Bab-il FFIV call back, they could use Alexander again as the Giant of Bab-il, per the Giant's original concept art.
There will obviously be Echo visions, giving us mental time travel to see past and maybe future events.
We might not time travel ourselves, but side characters might time travel from the past or future. Who knows?
Wouldn't it be crazy if Lahabrea from Amaurot came time traveling in on some past version of Alexander? hehe

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Well if we look at how FFXI handle it’s expansions (which were mostly self-contained stories separate from one another). Some of the plot devices they used to separate one expansion from another usually involved travelling to a far off land such as going to the Far East and becoming a mercenary, or going to the new frontier as a pioneer. But they did have one expansion that involved time travel. It had you go back in time to the Crystal war which was set 20 years before the events of FFXI to help protect the events that lead to your timeline from villains trying to alter the future.
FFXIV could absolutely have a time travel expansion, as the events of ARR are set after the seventh umbral calamity, plenty of room to go back there and see other calamities, time travel has also already been established in the main story. The question is though: Would it be worth doing time travel?
In FFXI the Crystal war is something we only hear about in the main game and is referenced a lot in how the world was shaped and the events that happen in the base story. So being able to go back and see those events unfold in person was interesting. But in FFXIV the only comparable thing is the seventh umbral calamity, which was 1.x. So unless they wanted to remake 1.x (which I wouldn’t be entirely against) there isn’t much else that’s worth going back and seeing for ourselves in FFXIV when we could be going somewhere new.
I hope not, Time Travel is such a boring, overdone concept that I don't think is ever written well.
I would love more 'roleplay' scenario's of going through previous heroes going through their calamities however, that would be really interesting and fun.
I don't think they'd play with intentional time travel, as in for example, a portal that lets you go back and forth, but maybe something like a Noctis situation in XV...
However, the "time skip" would probably be something between 5-10 years. In the trailer we saw Eorzea on fire, I can assume that 6.0 story will probably wreck havoc on the land, and a 5-10 time skip would probably be enough for stuff to be rebuilt/politics changes, so we'd have the true feel of another era.
They mentioned that this story arc will end in 6.0... So I presume .1+ patches will be an introductory and build up to this new storyline situation / time skip plot device to fully realize it in between 6.5 and 7.0.
I doubt it. We have so much of the world we can explore. More of Othard, parts of Eorzea actually, Mercydia, Sharlyan, the New World, plus other shards besides the First. There's no need to immediately jump to time travel.
The end of 6.0 will wrap up the Ascian/Zodiark storyline but that doesn't mean they have to do something drastic like time travel. There's still a ton of potential in the setting as is.
Forward skipping time works fine.. "5 years later..."
But anything that involves going backward in time is a massive gamble from a storytelling perspective, and not a gamble I'd ever love for them to take.
Wasn't the Garlond Ironworks super hopeful they'd figure out some time traveling tech during 5.4 before the machines got overworked? Maybe I'm just misremembering.
I not so secretly had dreamed Diadem 5.0 would involve time-traveling to 5 years ago as a form of delivering a "XIV classic" without the real damage a real classic server would make. But in terms of plot that would be pretty pointless.
