I'm hearing a lot of mentions of bots, and to be clear I have no intention of botting, so that option is out.

Bots have put a dent in the crafting market but it hasn't killed it unlike what some will claim. A bigger dent has come from more players able to craft now. Prices for many items are lower than their equivalents in past expansions but there's still plenty of room for profit.
One secret to making gil is not spending what you've already earned unless you have to. Ask yourself what you're spending your gil on and if there are other options for less or no gil.
Been paying teleport fees? Buy Aetheryte tickets with Allied or Centurio Seals instead.
Buying materia off the MB? Buy it with the clusters you get from level 80 dungeons and hunts instead (you'll occasionally get the materia itself from the level 80 dungeons).
Repairs are cheaper if you've leveled the right crafting classes and a single leveled crafting class lets you do your own melding (though I wouldn't recommend leveling crafting just for repairs and melding).
The amounts you spend on those things may not seem like much individually but they do add up over time.
Once you stop spending it unnecessarily, the amount of gil you have will increase. You might want to start thinking about what you've been spending your gil on and find ways to get what you need through other methods.

Gonna have to disagree with Jojoya. Besides the obvious pretentiousness radiating from his comment. Crafting is dead, the market board bots killed it. Ya can make some gil at it but your efforts will be for naught as there are more and more bots springing up on the board.
- gathering and sell is the common way
- crafting should give you better but need more investment i guess
- play buy low sell high from market board is also a thing but you really need to stare the market board every minute or so
- the easiest for me is just go duty finder and look whats the "adventurer in need" (mostly tank) and go play as that, it give you instant queue, extra gil, need/greed all the drop and sell them off. its small sum compare to others but since iam not into gathering/crafting, its the only way for me
If you plan doing this buy from one server and sell in another. Cuz that crafter you bought from will probably just post up more items at the same price.
Bro. . . Do you even craft?

And yet I still make several million a week crafting items for sale. I even run across your listings occasionally.
If it's dead as you say, why are you bothering? Or are you really trying to discourage competition?
My advice is perfectly sound even if you're bitter that some things don't sell for as much as they used to.
While I’m not sure that I’d recommend crafting as a lucrative plan for a new player, if you already have the levels or want to level crafting for the cheap repairs, it can be profitable.
I can often just straight up buy the components for things like housing items or whatever, craft two and sell one back to cover the all my costs. I’m sure with effort you could find commonly used housing goods, etc and make a decent chunk..especially w/ Ishgard housing incoming.
I feel like it's more productive to pursue niche markets over the mainstream ones that are being exploited by bots.
It might not sell as quickly, but you can push higher prices and worry less about undercutting if there's not as much competition around.
