Personally I read this as being a cumulative cap, not an increasing one.

The weekly cap of 450 stays but unearned tomes can roll over into future weeks. E.g. if you only earn 300 tomes this week then next week you can earn 600 because you still have 150 outstanding. The total number of tomes you can earn at any given point in the patch cycle remains the same, but you're not "punished" for starting late or not capping every single week.

So, there are two views on this.

On the one hand, you can think of it as being punished for not capping every single week, but if you allow unearned tomestones to rollover, you can create a pressure to gain everything back the next time. What if you miss out on like 4 weeks and now have like 1800 tomestones to grind? I think the fact that the developers don't even remove the weekly cap until the new weekly-capped tomestones appear, even with the long wait between 5.2 and 5.4 is deliberate.

People like to procrastinate and then "work" more at the last minute if given the chance. It can be unhealthy. With the current limits, if you miss out on a week or two or four, then you miss out, but it's not the end of the world. They don't want you to work harder to try to catch up, but if you do want to, you can try getting HQ sets or Savage gears to supplement. Alternatively, there are also dungeon and alliance raid gears.

Dungeon gear is 35 ilvl lower than tome gear. Alliance raid gear for this tier has not been released yet.

It's been 7 years, I think it's time to shake up the system a bit. However, I can live with the tome system if they would shake up how we get/cap tomes. Expert dungeons are just boring. Capping tomes just becomes a weekly chore to do that takes away time from doing things that would be fun.

There are so many ways to get tomes the way you want now in a given week, that many people don't even do expert dungeons anymore. If you want to focus on PvP for a week, easy. Trap some savage party finders? Okay. Only Bozja Blast? Another option.

I could see the merit in incrementally increasing the cap throughout the patch cycle it is active. I think doubling it every week is too much, but to increase it by say 25 ( I didn’t crunch numbers just an example) every week until it’s maxed @ 2k would be a blessing to those that like to gear multiple jobs, but not open the floodgates on reducing raiding longevity.

I actually get all of my tomestones in Bozja now.

It's already like that. Right now some people feel pressured to cap tomes every week and some people don't. How would this change anything?

It depends what you need the gear for. Raid and tomestone are weekly capped, so dungeon gear can still be an update to your secondary/tertiary gear set.

I don't see a need to shake up what works. Tomestone provides the ability to get gears with a variety of activities, some more efficiently than others, with supplemental/alternative gears being available as well.

The limit makes the difference. Regardless of how many times you miss out on capping, you will always only need to do 450 in a week until it is no longer the current tomestone.
