Honestly? Who cares. A bunch of whiners on a forum who rolled a race they were told wasn’t going to be able to wear headgear because they wanted to play dress up bunny.

Fantasia or whatever if it upsets you but most of the player base would rather they focus on everyone and not just the Bikini bunnies, who’s main feature pretty much is their face and ears to begin with.

Why should we cater to you Roe women who are honestly in the minority of the player base? I chose Viera because I love the race from FFXII. Not play a dress up bunny. Your negative attitude isn't needed.

I do think it’s funny when people try to insult viera players with “you just want to play dress up with a bunnygirl”. Yeah, and? Why are we pretending like glam isn’t a major feature of this game? Or that viera are the only ones with issues with it? There’s new threads every day about some aspect of glam people want changed or added. There are entire websites and databases and communities dedicated to glam. This isn’t news.

It would be great if they actually focused on everyone rather than everyone except Hrothgar and Viera, so I'm glad we agree on that.

Yeah. I get the impulse to say "if they didn't do all this Bozja stuff I don't care about, they could have improved things for Viera and Hrothgar". But I'm not 100% sure the results folks want could have been attained by having the raid combat design team behind Delubrum, or the music team behind the music for the Bozjan content, or the voice director for cutscenes, or the systems programmer implementing new Lost Actions or whoever try to make animation rigs or design hairstyles or whatever.

While it might be *interesting* to see what came out of that...

Not to mention that all the threads that pop up on this issue aren't usually made by regulars, they are usually new or less active users. More and more disgruntled viera/hrothgar players coming to voice their concerns every time.

I feel like eventually Viera and Hrothgar will get to change hair and the like, because it's effectively turning their nose up at money from items on the FFXIV Store that have hairstyles, but who knows when it'll happen.

I've also seen it suggested from a development standpoint that the reason Viera can't wear certain headgear is because, specifically in Viera's case, the ears are flagged as a hat, and we can't "wear" two hats at the same time.

They're not, everything is under a separate category just like all the other races, they can be shown or hidden with the tick of a checkbox.

It's just that HeadHideScalp doesn't work for Viera or Hrothgar because those versions of the hairstyles weren't created.

The clipping of the ears genuinely looks bad in combination with certain headgear, especially the "bent" ears where it clips going both up and down, so we can assume that's why they decided on a blanket solution of hiding them rather than going down a list and checking which ones look okay with each of the 4 ear styles, completely hiding the ears could work but it would also erase Viera's most unique feature.

But it's not because either race has such an unworkable unique head-shape or having the ears in the head slot.

I like to tell myself it's because they have been working on new heads for hrothgar as well, maybe even a bunch of hairs too, and they wanted to release them as a bundle. It's a nice idea, but I shouldn't kid myself. I am reserved in my expectations come May/EW.

I don’t personally want my ears chopped off and prefer clipping them and then getting to choose which hats I’m ok with. Some hats, like huge witch hats, I’d be ok with because you could feasibly stuff ears into it, but I prefer them to clip through even then.

A certain community found that the real issue at hand isn’t even the ears, anyway. That’s an old rumor from way back at launch. It’s the hair, at least on viera. It’s all one big chunk, instead of having parts that can be turned off when a helmet is equipped. Because our hair is enormous, it clips pretty intensely. I’m guessing this is a bigger reason than ear clipping.

The issue isn't even Viera, there's a mod that enables all headgear and aside from the bent ears it actually looks really good and natural. No different from Au ra ears clipping through hoods or helmets.
The real issue here is Hrothgar and multitude limitations they have, and since Viera-Hrothgar are one race they won't update one without the other, getting around their beast-like head and lion manes would require them to model every headpiece one by one on them. If male Viera gets added, they could finally un-link female Viera from male Hrothgar and create hat-hair models for the Viera race.
