I've yet to meet anyone who has been brought into the game because of someone else doing ultimate.

I know this is a more expensive comment so it's not like "eeehy I've a better idea for that ultimate money lol", but I feel watching an ultimate raid would be more interesting than just an ultimate fight (raid like in WoW, where there is in essence a zone to explore and get rofl stomped on, multiple wings, bosses, locations, concepts, etc). Get to go through multiple areas, which adds to the visual diversity and vibe of progression / change of pace (maybe this week they're in the swamp, next week they're in the caves). Because it's for the few players who you know will have a group pre-setup (no DF lol), you can include some ideas like puzzles, multiple branching paths, the meanest trash and traps possible. Maybe release a few wings at a time.

    "Ultimate Zone".

I don't normally watch creators but at least personally watching them do the same thing over and over and over and over is a bit less exciting unless they've got a lot of energy (themselves and or their chat). When you've got energy you could stream anything anyways really, as some do lol. I mean to me it could be equally entertaining to watch ocean fishing then, if they're good energy.

Was just an aside on your comment though, thoughts on the whole streamer loss concept.

Edit: This is clearly the case in streaming platforms. Ultimate fights draws tens of thousands of viewers while people who stream the story only get like single digit viewers if any!
I have a fashion blog with almost 5,000 followers. Even streaming is only one small part of the playerbase, mind you - I'd much rather be playing a game myself than watching someone else play content that I would find too difficult to enjoy.

Answer's pretty obvious here. There's a reason no one watches another person do the story on twitch, it's boring. The story isn't even good.
I think it's fairly obvious that SE has access to better metrics than you do with TwitchTV.

Honestly, this is what I would have expected anyway. They clearly stretched their tiny Ultimate team too far to begin with by promising 2 Ultimates per expansion cycle.
This would also give a better sense of progression through the life of a Savage raid series, gearing up for a final Ultimate trial.
But it seems we're set for x.1 now, instead of x.5.
With any luck, 7.0 will be less of a technical undertaking and they won't need to sideline the 6.5 Ultimate for it.

You haven't been paying attention outside of this game's community, then. The ultimate events even get attention in circles that typically wouldn't even consider FFXIV, and attention on this game is what permits you to enjoy the quality of content you currently experience.

If you refuse to believe the loss of a tentpole marketing event is going to cause no problems for you, then I'll just let you think that. I just don't want to see you complain when Endwalker has a weaker content cycle than Shadowbringers, though.

This isn't to say I don't understand why Ultimate was delayed (twice) and canceled (for Shadowbringers), but this is not something anyone should celebrate. Even if you had no intention of stepping foot in Ultimate.

Furthermore, I see no reason to believe Square will do any better for Endwalker. That loss of trust should be more concerning than whether we get an Ultimate or not.

    "loss of trust" really?

You know, there's a thread that exists since.... 2014 called "the many deaths of ffxiv"

This game, according to the community, has been dead since 2.0.

    Please.

The "But Twitch!" argument is an interesting one for me. I play the game almost exclusively for the more casual content. I'm interested in seeing what the whole farm thing is about and am eager to see where the story goes next (once Zenos is, hopefully, put out of our misery for good). But I will usually watch Ultimate and Savage races on stream just because I find them entertaining. Honestly, though, if they suddenly disappeared I wouldn't personally miss them at all.

Now, I'm not advocating for the removal of hardcore raiding content at all, but the belief that people watching the content on Twitch has any bearing on what those same people do/want to do in game is completely flawed. Heck, I bet a lot of people who do watch Ultimate races don't even play the game at all and are just checking them out purely for the entertainment value.

You're the one being overdramatic. I said nothing about the game dying, you did.

What's incontrovertible is Square failed to follow through with their plans for Shadowbringers. That costs trust of players that were looking forward to what was promised.

There's no reason for those players to believe Square will do any better for Endwalker. Perhaps they'll be pleasantly surprised, but the best option for now is to believe Ultimate only shows up once every two years.

    If ever again.

If I knew ultimate fights were a thing back when I started (though they didn't exist yet) I would have been pushed away from ever starting to play it to begin with. I used to do extreme fights all the time and even some savage. However players lost the will to actually play the game and only started to care about having high numbers. This was a thing before ultimate obviously, but it's only gotten worse.

As a result I haven't even touched even an ex fight for this entire expansion and barely did them in the last one. Now all I do is run the story, maybe a bit of side stuff and wait for the next big update. I don't even grind for tomestones anymore because I'm trying to avoid the players themselves as a whole.

Also, people watching a twitch stream doesn't equal subs. SE cares about the money. Barely anyone does ultimate. Let's not forget those numbers used earlier would also count alt characters and characters carried by run sellers. It is in SE's best interest to go with what most of the players want, and super hard content is not that thing. They have more information than the players ever will.

Once again ignoring the fact Square said they'd do something, didn't (after stringing along players), and tries to justify that breach of trust post hoc.

    Take comment, drag to trash.
