I would assume the secret is that he's Tempered by the Sound itself. Considering in the lore of this world, the strongest will can control others and corrupt them, then the Sound should be no different. Which would also explain how it made the ancients go mad and lose control of their creation magic, it was literally corrupting them with its will.

I'm not sure that makes sense because the original Fandaniel would have been tempered to Zodiark. And because he was in the convocation, sitting deep in Amaurot would have been introduced to Zodiark before the Sound.

I would think it depends on how strong the Sound's will is compared to Zodiark's. Remember, Phoenix (a primal) was being controlled by Bahamut (a primal) until it was let go, and Ryne (echo user) lost control to Shiva (a primal) when summoning her. The stronger of the wills is the one in control, always.

Ryne doesn't have the echo. She has the Oracle of Light powers which she inherited from Minfilia, but did not get her echo (hence why she lost control, unlike Lady Iceheart who could control the power).

Zodiark only exists because the source of the Sound existed though, so I don't see how that makes sense. Fandaniel would have been tempered before Zodiark was even summoned.

Order of existence doesn't matter. In Fandaniel's case exposure is what would matter. And since he was in the Convocation in Amaurot, the last place the sound hit, and since Azem was the only member to leave often, he was most likely exposed to Zodiark before the Sound.

This brings to mind a thought...when did Fandaniel become Fandaniel? Was it before the Sound had started occurring, or after? If after...there's a chance he might have been exposed to the sound first.

The summoning of Zodiark stopped the devastation caused by the keening sound entity. Amaurot suffered from the devastation for a period of time. Herego the sound reached Amaurot before Zodiark was summoned.
