He has gone on record several times (as recently as the last month) saying that they are reaching their limits on what they can do and that it impacts their workflow significantly. With the conclusion of 6.0 seeing us moving into a “new adventure”, my money is on the overhaul being then, and with it, the absent genders.
THIS!

This is what I've been trying to bring to people's attention! (But this thread has been troll baited recently and of course we cycle back to feminine vs masculine sub-plot)

I had hope, but I thought Female Hrothgar were a lost cause because I thought that ... this game was in going into "wrap it up" mode. It's easy to forget, but this game is old AF and still carries design debt from it's botched history and limitations from being made with PS3 tech in mind.

So in my mind this was it, the story would wrap up and we were going to get a new FFMMO in the next few years oooooor we get an extreme engine and graphics overhaul because they've been reaching their limits for some time now and at some point it's going to be harder to do things with their outdated methods. That's why when he said he sees this as his life's work and that they're going to do everything they can to make this the best game it can be for the NEXT decade I felt like that means they're going to address this. I also don't think they're going to let people cry about Viera male and Female Hrothgar for a damn decade more.

I'm expecting that massive engine and graphics overhaul sooner than later. FF14 is sitting pretty on the MMO hill but Sega's PSO2 is getting a massive push in the West, and it's super popular in Japan already plus Namco's Blue Protocol is getting hyped so they've got to be seeing that they need to stay competitive on these fronts.
