Why are people so adverse to talking in discord within FC?

I have been in several FC's that advertise discord but no one seems to just hang out and talk unless there is a specific need like dungeons. This is the first mmo that I have played that people just seem adverse to talking and getting to know one another while playing. Without people to talk with and get to know, I feel like I am just playing solo and the FC is only there for the buffs, but no community.

Because I don't play games to chit chat, and if I'm in a mood to do so, Discord is the most obnoxious place to do it.

But I've been playing MMO's since Everquest was in beta, when no voice chat even existed, and so know what a good guild is really about.

Former Evercracker as well. Big reason I don't do Savage in this game. I like my time to be my own.

The only thing I can really give Discord over in-game tools is being able to leave notes for people who aren't online about events. We used to do that in my old EQ guild with our website. But yeah, I use Discord for non-FFXIV stuff, but FC chat works just fine for me.

I agree. I played Everquest. Raided without a mic and voice chat. It was a much more enjoyable and rewarding experience killing 15 raid bosses after a server reset.

I dunno people have been asking that lately about why only 10-20 students out of 300 have their cam on or talk on mic. It seems quite common to be adverse when it's not just people that already opt-in to it.
