Why are people so adverse to talking in discord within FC?

I have been in several FC's that advertise discord but no one seems to just hang out and talk unless there is a specific need like dungeons. This is the first mmo that I have played that people just seem adverse to talking and getting to know one another while playing. Without people to talk with and get to know, I feel like I am just playing solo and the FC is only there for the buffs, but no community.

Guess that just depends on the fc. Mine spends most of the time in discord chatting, tho we're basically all real life friends at this point. I've known them all for close to 7 years, and we've all met various members in person.

My fc is also not very big, so....

I think you're just in a cess FC, unfortunately. No short order of them, either. Took me a while before I found an active FC that is very chatty. Discord is always blowing up and the VC channels usually have 5-8 people in them at a time. Just got to shop around.

Im an introvert and while I love talking, I don’t like to talk all the time. I also tend to want to listen to music or focus on the content if we are doing harder content. Nothing against my friends but I tend to distract easily so I need to remove distractions unless absolutely necessary.

I don't really bother with FC's in this game, though. I've watched too many fall apart due to gossip and petty drama.

For me at least it's a generational thing. Some of the people in my FC definitely do hang out in Discord all the time, and they're great people. But I started playing MMOs back before there even was Discord (or any legitimate voice chat really) so it's never really been a thing to me. I'll chat in /fc all the time but voice chat has never become part of my "flow" when I'm playing.

I'm more or less the same way, I get the younger group can't function without discord but it shouldn't be a requirement for any content. Also for us console peasants, it's a bit of an inconvenience to drain my phone battery or occupy both PC and PS4 to use a chat system. I'd rather have a discord party chat option on PS4, but that never will happen.

Thirdly, thanks to the generational gap I just can't stomach people who obsess over memes. Many a discord chat I've had to mute people or muscle through late teens, early 20 somethings spout memes out loud ad infinitum during raid only for half to "squirrel" and dip out. Hope my kids don't get like that, yikes.
