Both PLD and WHM use "light" and "holy" things to fight/heal already. So the new job doesnt have to exactly like drk, it can be something closer to ghosts and spirits instead.
If the new job has a pet i don't think it will be a dragon, it's too close to drg (or smn with bahamut) and there's others things. Any animal or mythical creature will work (they just need to make it look cool tbh). Crows, vultures, owls, yokais, yakshas ... There's a lof things that are linked one way or another to the theme of death.

My strange prediction that turned out true was that when 5.45 launched last week I was certain one of the next jobs in the then unnamed next expansion would be a melee dps in maiming gear because they gave it the most Judge Gabranth-accurate gear set.
Beyond that, my prediction is that given our collective inability to accurately guess new jobs that aren't pretty much spelled out to us or leaked that all our guess will continue to be off the mark.
I know you're not totally serious, but there are a lot of peeps who like to incorporate or interpret the time with the moogles as DRK like this, but there really isn't anything in the quest log to confirm as such. Sidurgu considers it was a complete waste of time, but the WoL feels differently. I think this is part that is left for the viewer to decide. I looked at the moogles song and the encounter as them telling Sid that his oath to Rielle blinds him, and that there is love to be found in his precious abyss. Rielle OTOH, isn't really having any of it, and accuses Sid of being a selfish prick, and just uses her as an excuse to slay the temple knights to satiate his vengeance for their crimes.
It's all a bit odd, because none of them really have the right of it, and that is what goes through my head being the onlooker to their complicated relationship. But the WoL knows that both of them are safe so long as they are together. They'll figure it out eventually.
Hints to go by:
- Melee DPS
- It will use maiming gear
- It's going to be unique and doesn't exist in Final Fantasy
- The comic Yoshi P's first t-shirt showed was written by one with the surname "Temple" so some think "Templar". They'd fulfill the 'maiming' gear. Given this was the method used to oust Samurai, I think this could be a red herring...but then any hint could be a red herring.
- It looks like Death on his first t-shirt
- Yoshi P later swapped to a Children of Bodom t-shirt, who usually use the Grim Reaper as part of their album artwork.
- "Necromancer, what's a necromancer?"
- In the trailer you can see something sticking out from Zenos' throne, it roughly resembles a scythe head.
- The hint that he'll keep continuing after he's dead.
I have a feeling it will be some kind of reaper or variation of a scythe user, so I agree with this line of thinking.
I don't think explicitly necromancer as I associate them with magic but the hint of 'death' comes with the necromancer association.
With the "Templar" speculation, heck, there's room for something akin to Dante's Inferno, which has a scythe wielding Templar kind of aesthetic. I feel like it'd play to cues from FFXI's Dark Knight, which was a melee DPS that typically wielded a scythe and wore heavy armour.
So it'd fit the hints, it'd fit the maiming gear, it'd fit the melee DPS and if they're differentiating it from Dark Knight with its own thing then it's a new job to the Final Fantasy universe.
Not a major point but just going with the whole may be Ranjit inspired job, his name is Sanskrit. One of the regions we're going to in the expansion you might argue has some influence by cultures who spoke that language (naturally FF games don't follow a strict 1:1 from culture inspiration, so I'm not arguing that it is 1:1).
Then he's a guy who has the weapon type we assume, the gear type we assume (maim), the visual vibe is nearing what we assume, the combat style we might assume (melee and some magic), and name from a culture we might assume (although I think in the game lore he's supposed to be from the Doma region or something).
Which again to me doesn't mean we will be Ranjit, but like.. that Ranjit might have inspired the job.
It's still hard to say for sure, so I'm not laying any hardcore confidence, just drawing lines and having fun with what might stick (maybe it's Mascot job! lol). Like I'm still leaning towards Reaper with perhaps the name Ravager if they wanted to have a classic(ish) FF job name.
Also... I feel like having a dark job for this trailer would make really good imagery. Either with the WoL going anti-Cecil (Paladin to Reaper) or by Paladin vs Zenos (Reaper). Perhaps WoL gets knocked down and then job shifts into Reaper to fight Zenos :3.

Someone on Twitter concluded that the Children of Bodom t-shirt hint could have actually been a reference to the Magus Sisters, one of whom wields a scythe.

Honestly I love this so much. I figured it was too early for a shirt hint at the melee. This is the Bugs Bunny shirt this time.Someone on Twitter concluded that the Children of Bodom t-shirt hint could have actually been a reference to the Magus Sisters, one of whom wields a scythe.
