So....Let me make this straight right here and now, I am not saying healer DPS is not needed to clear current savage. You want something to drop? Drop that right here and now. I am not about to engage in this stupid argument again. This has absolutely nothing to do with any points I am attempting to get across. In the post you quoted, I am clearly saying healers should DPS to make the encounter easier to clear. If this to you means that healers don\\\\'t need to contribute, this is your own flaw in comprehension.
That is not what my posts or this thread is about. It is about the validity of using shields in PvE.
Gcbtw

Sage looks cool.
I'm excited to try it.
We also now have a tech-y healer and that's great.
Also, I love how SQEX surprised us and went with something we didn't see coming and I love the unique weapon.

Seems fun but I expect a flood of Sages so will probably level WHM first to ensure PF spots - then level Sage.
Nice teaser - can't wait to see more (RIP SCH?)

probs depends on the other job that released along side sage if its a angst dps with a Scythe you probably wont see sage as much
especially considering HW stats said that pretty much existing tank and heal players picked up Drk and Ast than DPS going to the roles
it will probably be the same again with sage.

Im really hoping they rework Scholar to be more Shield dependent, but so many things would have to change. I definitely wouldnt mind if their regens and burst heals got nerfed in favor of more robust shielding. I know previously I wondered if it would work to have all their direct heals (physick, indom, excog, emergency tactics) and regens (whispering, union) get a potency increase on targets carrying a Galvanized Shield to give their kit more cohesion. If a broken shield gave Aetherflow or Fey Guage and we had something worthwhile to spend it on that would be great too. Right now preemptive shielding just feels really unrewarding especially if the party is halfway decent. Imagine if Fey Blessing increased the size of all Scholar Shield effects giving a slight bump to both Galvanize and Catalyze. If the interactions in Scholar kit was tuned correctly shields could be incredibly fun but they dont do anything interesting at all which is really odd considering their supposed to be such a tactical healer.

While more shields are nice, I'm pretty sure some Dark Knights out there would be cringing if they had to deal with two barrier healers remove their Walking Dead debuff on themselves. Then again, it shouldn't come to that if SE wants 1 barrier healer and 1 pure healer in Duties, but I'm not sure if that's going to be the change in DF since the two healer roles aren't separated, or only recommended in PF.
Thanks for opening up the DNC isn’t a healer wounds...Somewhat disappointed in this one. Though it appears to be somewhat of a departure from other healers, at least in terms of aesthetic and whatnot... it's still not quite enough for me. It's tech-y, but not quite there yet... Still heavily relying on magic and I wanted something a bit more out there. It's one of the reasons I was looking forward to dancer being a healer. It'd be breaking the "mage healer" mold.
That said, I'm still looking forward to playing with it and seeing what it can do.
