Good post. Cornelia's not that populated? I'm not surprised. Palamecia was in the "middle" population wise with 2 chocobos at the server select screen. It sits on 160 players ( or less ) at a given time. I made a character on Fabul and Kashuan, supposedly the least populated 1 chocobo servers, and they sat at 280 and 300 players respectively.

Cornelia is a 3 chocobo server o_O. I hope the server select screen is more honest after the mergers.

EDIT: Just thought, it may reflect registered characters. If that's the case, it should indicate the active users on right that second, like every other MMO server select screen I've seen.

The reason it seems scarce to an NA player is because Cornelia is primarily a JP dominant server. If we go by JP primetime numbers, I believe we're the third largest server.

As someone who has been here from the very beginning, let me tell you this: As bad as it may seem right now, you have no idea how far this game has come.

It would be easy for me to be an elitist asshole and tell you "lol l2p newb, if you want easymode go play wow!" but actually you're pretty spot on with your comments. The fact that a lot of the playerbase does not experience what you are experiencing is a problem that unfortunately puts your issues on the bottom of the list of priorities. Most people have been around awhile and are already capped out on many classes. Furthermore, the players who have been here for awhile went through a long period where guildleves were the only thing to do in the game, and they gave you an exorbitant amount of money for completing them, (100k in a single guildleve was relatively easy to get by today's standards) so a lot of people have a lot of money, and therefore have no real motivation to sell things for marginal profit (lowbie gear).

This game currently is severely lacking new players right now, and as a result things in the beginning of the game tend to get ignored production wise. However, I do appreciate your comments as they highlight areas of the game with issues that aren't being brought up very often, but need to be addressed as they will likely be the bane of SE's subscriptions in 2.0 if not fixed.

Imo the beginning of the game is the most crucial in an MMO, as that is the point where you decide "am I having fun?" If the answer is yes, you'll continue to invest your time and therefore your money. If the answer is no, then SE has a serious problem on their hands (again).

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I am said friend playing with Saeb. Based on what you have all said in the more recent comments with regards to server sizes I am curious if it would improve our game experience to switch to a server that is more highly populated by NA players.

Because the chocobo ratings are apparently unreliable, I was also curious if you all had any input as to which server would be the best for us to roll on.

very true. according to the last numbers i seen had

1. Selbina
2. Gyshal
3. Cornelia
4. Figaro
5. Mysidia

these were the top numbers per day so they were very likely jp heavy servers, but it's the only solid numbers i've seen. if anyone has seen numbers that show cornelia as a low populated server i'd be interested to see those numbers. it'd be hard to go below servers like karnak that's lucky to see 300 even during jp prime time and sits round 150 during na prime time.

For NA/EU populations I would maybe look at the numbers found at XIVpads It's a pretty popular site for NA/EU but I don't think many JP people use it so the numbers probably reflect more so NA/EU populations.

i don't think any third party site will ever be a true estimate of populations.

i would love it if they could put like a search menu that refreshes every week or so that shows the max na/jp/fr/de players on each server during the previous week. i'm not sure something like that would be possible for them to incorporate into the character creation of the game, but maybe a player tracker in the lodestone or something.

it's just hard to judge a servers population by an optional third party site like that unless they hear about from someone else they may not even be aware of. i'm not saying it's numbers would be completely wrong, but it may be just as accurate as the other numbers we have seen already. we just won't know unless se gives gives us the ability to see actual numbers during all times of the day and the groups those numbers represent.

Besaid currently has a large NA/EU population (and RP). I just started recently myself and have run into many of the same issues but they are somewhat alleviated by the fact that Besaid's market isn't too top heavy. I've been able to find the materials I need to craft gear for myself and everything seems to be reasonably priced at the moment.

I've actually run into more North American/EU players than JP players which makes things a lot easier.

Your points are very valid however. Even simplified, signing up for the game is a chore. I had the benefit of coming from FFXI and did careful research before I came to the game which helped me with server selection and getting things organized. I can only imagine what a nightmare it is for people who are trying the game on a whim.

One thing to keep in mind is that with server mergers coming soon, restarting over and going to a new server may not be the best of ideas. I'd say stick with Cornelia for now and try your best to expand your ring of friends with your current character(s).

Again, I would like re-offer my helping hand if you send me a tell while I'm in-game. I will also try to look for you two while I'm on as well.
