Prettymuch. The Letter from the Producer a while back was fairly definite that it's just not possible in the current circumstances. It might happen someday but not on any kind of schedule to be hoping or expecting it to happen at the next big announcement.
Well, considering that some of FFXIV's biggest rivals have managed to expand character customisation I don't think that it is unreasonable to expect the development team to do the same thing. WoW is a much older game and has added multiple new playable races over time and has also revamped the character creator not once but twice. PS02 also recently upgraded the game's graphics considerably, I believe. To say nothing of the fact that many pseudo-MMO's such as Monster Hunter World and even single player games are competing for people's attention in terms of ongoing investment.
So yeah, it might not happen and we might not get the missing genders and/or a revamp of the character customisation system but it's been consistently in high demand to the point where it'd be a genuine disappointment for many if we go without. I want everything to be bigger and better this time around. That goes for story and staying power of content in particular.
Apparently everything is solved with the "It can't be done currently" and people will just simply buy it. I wish I could solve every problem like that too.
Can we have more dungeons? "It can't be done currently, but you can have fewer dungeons for more content" Spoiler: We got less content
Can we have better customization? "It can't be done currently"
Can we improve Eureka? "It can't be done currently, but you can get downgraded Eureka and removed Deep Dungeons"
Can we have more finished races? "It can't be done currently"
Can we remove genderlock? "It can't be done currently"
Can we improve the housing system? "It can't be done currently"
Can we have glamour fixed? "It can't be done currently"
Can we have more inventory/armory space? "It can't be done currently"
Can we have more events? "It can't be done currently, but you can have the usual ones cancelled"
Can we have less MogStation? "It can't be done currently, but you can have more expensive items"
However, you can have Mahjong and glasses done by our workers in their free time.
At this rate what are we supposed to have in our minds as average expectations? The security we can pay a sub? Is really expecting any of those madness?
Seriously, I'm not trying to sounds as a hater, because I love this game, but just because of that I would like it to be improved and I see certain aspects have been going downhill for a while now and people just seem perfectly fine with it because "current limitations." Player counts have gone from 6 millions to over 22 millions according to the numbers they show in their trailers and limitations just seem to get harsher. So, raise you standards and don't settle for whatever they throw at you. These are the guys who developed ARR behind the scenes while putting an end to 1.0
I'm expecting we're getting fanfest 1 and 2. Remember.. by this time both would've happened already. So expect a full CGI opening, atleast if possible 2 new job reveals, all the maps, job changes, name of the expansion and much much more.
PS3 launched in late 2006 / early 2007. They dropped the PS3 support in 2017. PS4 launched in late 2013 / early 2014. 2021 is a bit too early to drop it, in my opinion.
Besides, I think it's the lowest PC specs that are now "weighing down" ffxiv's upgrades, not PS4. I would not be surprised if they actually upped the minimal PC configuration this time around.
They usually hold one job and some maps back for fanfest 3 so I'd wager some of the stuff you mentioned will be saved for the digital fan fest in May. Plus we may only get a partial trailer if there are things in it they want to hold back until after 5.5 has dropped.
It is true that we may see more than the first fan fest would usually bring but they may also decide it's better to hold more back for the digital fan fest to make it a real extravaganza so may not.
I'm going to expect the lesser amount so I'm more likely to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
and yet some people wonder why this expansion is nicknamed budgetbringers.Apparently everything is solved with the "It can't be done currently" and people will just simply buy it. I wish I could solve every problem like that too.

i refuse to lower my hopes, but my expectations are getting thin.
This. They might not even make a PS5 version, just have people be able to play the PS4 version on PS5.No to ps4 support drop. You do realize a significant amount of people not only play on ps4, but have not been able to get a ps5 because of how difficult it is to even get one? I could see it down the line when/if they ever are readly available, but as of now that would cut a huge chunk of players out.
Yeah ps4 drop wont be happening with this expac, it'll be the one after, ps5 far too new to expect players that do use ps to have obtained by this coming expac. As for ps5 support, devs already mentioned a version in works but still a very big unknown as for release. I suspect we'll just be getting teaser info anyway since it looks like they're indeed planning a digital fanfest sometime in May.
Just watch the Shadowbringers first event in Vegas to set realistic expectations. Vague promises of things you'd expect ("multiple new jobs!" "New areas!" "Battle adjustments!") with little to no specifics.
We might get more than that event, but it's best to expect less.
No matter what, though, keep an eye on Yoship's shirt. Or he might try a different gimmick to stealth-announce something.
