    Feast Training, Dueling, Frontlines.

Hello i've never really been one to make a forum post before, but i heard from someone that feast might be going away, and i just really started playing a month ago but I've met some of the greatest people learning how to pvp and getting combos right and I understand how it could be overwhelming to a new player to learn all the different skills and combos compared with pve but it is so rewarding when you do. Frontlines is very fun for me too when i get on and play with my FC, and my friends and we get some wins, i understand some of the frustration with it but overall i really do think its an enjoyable mode of pvp to play. Feast training is all i can speak on because i've never gotten to play ranked but i think its a very fun and competitive environment, and i would love to be able to get on for a few hours a day and just que up into training matches and get them to pop without having to organize them with groups of people. So really this is just me asking what can we do to get new players more into pvp, and how to keep feast going more often and make it more enjoyable for everyone?

they would need to make rewards more appealing for more people to get into PVP. as it stands feast tournament rewards barely cut it.

I see so ranked rewards are not enough incentive for people to actually play it?

I see what's your opinion on training, because I can sit in que for 3 plus hours without a pop sometimes, and I'm surprised at how hard it is to get 8 players to que for it?

training is even worse because there is ZERO incentive to run it. for fun? maybe? PVP was always an afterthought for XIV. there has to be a fundamental shift in dev thinking/philosophy for that fact to change.

I would do more Feast if they added rank decay and had all 3 maps in the ranked queue. I have no interest in a PvP mode where you have to play it non-stop for 2+ weeks straight in order to get on the leaderboards (the queue will be dead later on) and you have no time for other activities in the game.

    - As for maps, Feasting Grounds need adjustments to its layout. Make the map less wide and remove the tower that you spawn on so the entire map is flat.
    - Give the Wolf Collar weapons a glow effect so they become little more desirable.
    - Add a quick chat button that say "Burst Ready!".

No? Well, guess I'll stick to Frontline and Rival Wings then.

    Hi Stilyer! :3

Like what was said before - Rewards that don't attract players to participate, no rank decay, the hours of grinding to Top 100 before the queues die... make ranked Feast a frustrating experience for most people, including myself.

I played PvP since Season 2, back when you had a UI similar to PvE. Today, we no longer have that depth and have to deal with less buttons to push, and because of this several veterans stopped playing PvP.

Personally, I got bored of Feast... and prefer to play it in a light party setting (with friends in voice chat). I recommend giving this a try before the game mode goes dark at Patch 6.x.

Also, since you play PvP and really want to get deeper into it, I recommend joining the PvP community's Discords.

I think I remember dueling you before. LMAO Bubble'gum Blue ring a bell?

If you're interested... since you're on Crystal DC, ACES run Feast tournaments every last Saturday of the month. It's more casual, open to everyone and to all skill levels. If you and your friends are interested in trying it out, hit me up in-game. We tend to mix teams with new players and veterans, so if you don't have a team, don't worry. After the tournament, we usually queue Frontlines in premade parties (The After Party!!!). LOL

Also, sometimes we do try to make Feast Training pop on Crystal. If you have an alt on Primal, sometimes training pops at night. You have my ign above. You can usually find me at the Wolves Den in Balmung. Find me and hit me up, and I'll let you know when we're queuing training or having an event.

Anyway, casual and competitive PvP is in need of something new. I personally think it needs to happen... so as-long-as it doesn't suck. XD LMAO

Joining the PvPaissa discord is a good way to know when things are popping or if there's scrims/customs going (see sig - alternatively https://discord.gg/sUy86UC).

If you are in queue for 3 hours, you are queueing when a lot of the vets have decided not to get things moving that evening due to playing other games or raiding (remember there's still people clearing and raid times coincide with what would normally be active feast hours). I streamed training queue for almost 4 hours today, customs for 3 hours yesterday and training again for around 2 hours a couple of nights ago on two DCs. There have been streams from Primal and Crystal also, I would say Aether is the one DC falling behind. Red are all pvp streams, and this is from an 11 day window.

Also people continue to recommend rank decay like it's going to make an ounce of difference because it's only going to affect those at the top who will just play their decay matches (and on EU - most of our top 20 tend to play anyone both during and outside of seasons), it still isn't going to make the lower tiers which need the most help any more active. It's scary that there's people who have played for years and still haven't grasped this concept, there needs to be a reason for people to play rather than forcing them, and the reality is there's very little to gain in-season and virtually nothing at all outside the top 100.

    DrWho is spot on btw.

I agree with you on giving players a reason to play without forcing them, but where I disagree (respectfully) is on the concept of rank decay.

Most competitive games have rank decay to encourage continued participation, and it will keep those in the Top 100 engaged. Another added benefit is that it discourages RMT/wintrading (or at least make it more difficult). As such, I feel it's much needed for Feast ranked queue.

In regards to the lower tiers, (my opinion, which I assume is the same as yours) it's a matter of game design and whether-or-not the game mode is enjoyable to the general FFXIV player base. The caveat here is that game design (or game development in general) is difficult, and giving what players want is not always the best way of doing things, I'm sure the devs know this. Regardless, I think Feast must be developed into something that almost everyone within the FFXIV community will enjoy without relying heavily on providing what players want.

Feast IMO is NOT an enjoyable game mode to the general FFXIV community. It is stressful, it lacks DEPTH, and it is NOT easy to understand. For example, most players don't know that you win matches by picking up medals. Non-healers pick up Wolves Heart with no idea of what it does. There is no chat available for seasoned players to mentor newer players (except for custom matches). The concept of bursts, mitigations, and positioning are alien to most. Netcode is bad within this game... and it makes it worse for PvP. The culture in FFXIV seems to be more anti-PvP than it is to actually support the idea of improving it. The list goes on.

Because of this, Feast will continue lacking in participation unless there is some kind of reward or incentive to queue the game mode... I personally want to see it queued because it's FUN.

Feast needs some love. Until then, lets see what the new PvP game mode will provide. XD
