Sure. There's no reason to assume that the appearance or other properties of the character and their player are correlated in any way. What I'm trying to say is that I default to a light in-character mode where I address the other characters, rather than players, when talking or performing emotes, but will happily use out-of-character knowledge and concepts in conversation. Given the roots of the role-playing genre, I don't think anyone should be offended by role-playing in a role-playing game. The specific actions being role-played are another matter, but being offended at the act of role-playing itself is a bit silly.

And actually, funny thing about the pronouns. There's been one or two cases where my real and character pronouns were mismatched and a friend referred to me by the real ones. It felt out of place, though not offensive. So I think in such a case I would not correct someone using my character's pronouns even if they were a guildmate or someone else I expect to interact with regularly.

I go with "they/them" when addressing random people. I've noticed "he/she" is met with "I'm actually a <insert gender here>" somewhat regularly. Best to just avoid that awkwardness altogether.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I reported the guy after I got out of the dungeon, and just did something else for a while to calm down. I'm a gal in real life, so getting hit with this suddenly was like a slap to the face. I rarely report people (usually I report the rmt bots, even though it's futile at times), but this one just practically begged it.

Looking at the guy's lodestone page showed he had some 50s with a 52 pld tank as his highest. If he expects healers to curebot his hide he's going to be slammed so hard later on. I know it'll eventually bite him in the ass sooner or later.

To be fair playing curebot is mostly a lower level thing, and the higher levels even without cooldowns especially this late into the expansion healers can heal through large amounts of stupid. So honestly it wouldn't surprise me if no one ever really points out what he is doing wrong cause most the time it is not really even worth the effort. Like personally I rather have a tank that does not use cooldowns and do large pulls verse one that does single pulls personally.

Legit man prob boils his death down to you simply not being a good healer, since he prob has done that pull before and other healers were able to keep him alive due to just spamming heals. Low key can be annoying when tanks mistake the groups effort as their own ability, though that is the nature of tanking for some.

No one died the entire run, I made sure of that. It still doesn't excuse the tank for saying that at the end.

A story from everyone's favourite duty - Aurum Vale!

Tank & healer duo were griefing a AV run that I replaced someone in. Tank tells the other DPS to not pull extra mobs - they didn't, the mobs aggro'd due to how the first room is cuz the Nix will just turn and lick you which aggro's half the room. The tank didn't even take mobs into the boss room around the corner to avoid this.

I mention that the mobs will do this (assuming on my part that perhaps the tank didn't know), and so the tank turns the first boss towards other DPS and I to kill us with tankbuster cleaves.
DPS and I kick tank. New tank quickly enters. Healer says to kick them (healer).

We ask why, they say they were with tank. We all say no, and they say they don't want to eat the penalty. So I suggest to the other two that we just do the duty anyway - but carefully since the healer won't continue with us. New tank also suggests for us all to put in a report since the healer is technically griefing the run - which we all start doing (and complete before 2nd boss).

Healer promptly leaves, and tank's wife comes in to heal. Run goes perfect after.

    I love a happy ending.

Power couples getting their comeuppance is the happiest type of story this game can tell.

You ever have a tank just randomly go afk at the start of the pull so a random dps gets hit with the tankbuster and die? Like physically they're at the keyboard but mentally the hamster in their head is still busy booting up their systems?

Yeah, happened to me in Emerald weapon and not exactly happy about it, I got hit with the tankbuster and killed twice, the first time at the initial pull, and the second time at the start of phase 2. Normally I'm pretty patient about people messing up but by the time I got killed by the tankbuster for the second time I just wanted to pull the tank aside and go

made an account just to post this because i still think of this so much. leveling whm on an alt, get stone vigil. party is drk, me, drg, blm. blm immediately dips. this should have been foreshadowing. i quickly go to type asking if we want to try for a new one or just go without (can be fun in some instances and drg is party leader so) but the tank is already walking to the first pull. obviously, i must go after him to keep him alive, but as i'm walking through that first hallway i realize i'm hurting and so is the drg. both of us die pretty quickly and in all the confusion i have no idea what happened, i respawn at the start to see the new dps enter (mch) and can't say hi back to him because i'm too busy sprinting down the hall to make sure the tank doesn't die.
this chaos continues to the first boss where i swear the tank is moving so he specifically makes the cone breath hit me and give me burning right after every swinge. after the boss, he goes the wrong way down the hallway so i realize he's either new to tanking or unfamiliar with this dungeon. this is where i realize what's going on.
he pulls, and i see the mch kiting another enemy. he doesn't pick it up at all, doesn't provoke, doesn't aoe. it dies, and he moves onto the next pull. this is how this tank pulls:
    >saunters up to an enemy in the mob
    >presses his regular attack on it (no combo)
    >lets the dps and healer deal with the ensuing chaos
i tell him hey tank can you please get the aggro of more than one thing. no response. dps and i, seeing him refuse to cooperate or simply not reading chat, start discussing what we'll do, so i'll keep them alive while they become offtanks to trash.
and we kind of start making jokes about it! it's a nice little party and i would have com'd both dps if i could. we make it very slowly up to the final boss, me healing my little hands to the bone. i hear the limit break sound and i think "that's a little early, but i understand wanting to be out of here quickly".
and then the shield comes down in front of me. i check every one's statuses and discover the tank limit broke! immediately after hitting the boss!
so then i think... maybe the tank is being petty? after we were talking about him being the strangest, worst tank i've ever seen?
boss dies, loot is divided, dps and i say our partings. i leave and find out... tank still commed me (i got 3). it was like he genuinely believed this was how you tank a dungeon. i think of this every other day and get speechless all over again. random hrothgar drk from crystal... if you're out there... i hope you learned how to tank.

Queue into leveling roulette, I get Toto-Rak. I sigh and check the party out of force of habit, and realize we have a MRD and ARC in the group. I check the tank and see not only are they wearing lvl 15 gear, but are missing some accessories. That's fine, I've dealt with that before.

They decided to mass pull stuff at the start and nearly die because LoS is still a thing. I end up having to curebot them through it, and politely asked them if they would at least use a defensive cooldown on mass pulls, as it will make my life easier. Silence. Okay, I can deal with that. People usually don't read chat. The rest of the dungeon goes about as well as someone who is rather squishy, even though some tank gear dropped and they actually put it on. The DRG still had more hp than him at the end however. Most of the dungeon I end up having to curebot his yoyoing hp, and tried to slip in some dots and stones here and there to help kill things.

We get to the last boss and they immediately make a mad dash for the poison pods on the other side of the room like a child addicted to Pez and they had gone dry for a week. Three stacks of poison really do chew through paper tanks, so more curebotting and esuna! Yay...we eventually down the boss with me flip-flopping between curing their squishy self, throwing in some dots and dps, and keeping the other two alive.

I get this gem of a response after the boss died:

Another lovely day in the neighborhood...sigh...
    That tank sounded pretty chauvinistic.
