For heart of light, its hard to know if its magic, even from magic mobs: thier aoes might be coded to be physical. I just guess and hope it works.

To be fair you need to know what the attack does to know that raidwide is incoming. The castbar and name can mean whatever if you don't know from experience. Maybe it is summoning some adds, or a buff to themself or they will spawn some AOEs. Maybe it is "just" a single-hit tankbuster where shielding other people does nothing..Also, what is up with people not using their AoE buff(like Heart of Light, or Shield Samba, or Shake it Off, etc) when there is damage incoming for the whole group? So many times when I am MT in a normal raid, or even the odd time I do Trial Roulette, I don't see those buffs going out. I will probably see them once every 10 runs.

Why hello there, fellow Malikah’s Hell victim.

It would be really helpful if they can update the cast bar interface to indicate whether an attack is physical or magic based. Casts that can be interrupted has their tell (the gauge flashes while its casting), so I hope they can make distinction for phys/magic based attacks too.

The south west section (on the left side when you enter the boss arena) is basically a "safe spot" for the Heretic Fork ability. You only have move a little bit in order to dodge the first few AoE's. After that, you can just stand still. Especially easy for Ranged jobs.
It's a bit overkill, but i've made a rough scetch in the Toolbox Gaming Strat maker to give you a visual representation of what i mean.

The corners on the boss' arena are safe spots for the cheese method. I typically go to the SE corner, others will go to the SW. It's basically any corner that's far enough away from the boss to where you can see every single heretic's fork go off and not get hit. The boss will always face a certain direction whenever he goes into the crystal nail phase. The fork beams will always fire in compass-shaped cross, meaning NESW.
It's bad for melee because the beams have a hitbox and it doesn't let you greed very well. However a dead dps contributes no dps.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of unavoidable partywide/raidwide aoes are classed as magic so these abilities aren't worthless. In Shadowbringers, at the very least, every one is magic.

I used that very same cheese strat while I was leveling all of my melee classes and it works consistently at max melee range. The corners on the boss' arena are safe spots for the cheese method. "Outside obvious jokes/sarcasm, I aim to convey my words to the future readers who may come across mine posts. Can I change -your- mind, somehow? Potentially... but that's not why I'm writing. You and I have wrote our piece(s). We don't necessarily need to change each other's mind. But we can change other's."
