The good, The Bad, and the Ugly

    Good evening Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great New Year. I been thinking of writing this post for a while now. It will be going over a few things, and I hope people will get a laugh out of it or hate it. its past 2am and I should be a sleep right now, so I sorry for the wording if its really bad.

    The Good:
First off coming over to FFXIV from WoW "over 13 years in WoW" has been great. I love this MMO and I think 14 is one of the best ever. I do miss the mmo Wildstar. The first couple of things I was told when coming over are. 1)DO NOT!!! give advice in this game, you will must likely get reported and be suspended 2) Gnomes are called Lalafell and are known as potatoes 3)People are far friendlier here then in WoW. I have been able to play the game more over the pass year then over the years before. I love the story and the game play. The story has made me get teary eyed, and I don't cry easy.
The art team that you guys and gals have for this team are amazing. I love the Paladin and Warrior jobs! I like a lot of the content creators I have found on Youtube that cover this game. I love how much the Devs talk to the fan base and will listen to them expect on one subject "I will rant about later".

    The Bad:
Okay I know I will get some hate for this one. Paladins need an attack spell with their shield For example: Spell is called Razer Shield. Razer shield does 250 potency and Razer shield refresh the Goring Blade dot. I also wish Warrior had something they could do with their MP. I think there also need be something that helps player drain Gil out of the game. Mounts that cost a bunch of gil or Armor sets. Only thing I see that drains gil is Housing, which I will be covering in the next part.

    part 2

The Ugly: Housing, This is the one area I feel this game sucks at. Today was the last straw for me. I know many others and myself have been trying for houses for a while. Today alone I wait for about almost 7 hours for a house, while my friends were doing roulettes, raid, etc. I turn away for a sec because my dog brings me his new toy hotdog to show me, and turn back and the house sold. I have seen videos on this issue and I know it's like kicking a dead horse. I understand if the housing server are maxed out and with Covid is making hard to upgrade them. I been told you just need to wait for Ishgard housing, which people are saying its coming but there been no word on it. This part is my opinion on housing, I think the devs really don't care about this issue. I feel like they got a little water pistol and went to a raging wildfire, sprayed it a couple times and then pat themselves on the back and said "good job, that will show we did something". I feel they talk about more about damage meters and mods that lets people show off their nips nips, their kitty or man hammer off on social media, then the housing issue.

I know whining about the housing won't make a difference, but I wanted to get off my chest. I am done trying to get a house. One day if I click on a plot and it happens I will be a happy lala. Also here are a few ideas that may help, I feel if you whine about something you must be able to give out ideas to fix said issue. In Limsa and Kugane you can get a two bedroom House boat. you are park in a dock with other house boats and put stuff on your deck, so you have a out door and indoor stuff. In The Azim Steppes you can get a big one bedroom Yurt and a little yard. Also add in Condos which are two-bedroom apartments, and maybe some penthouses which are 3 bedroom apartment.

Thanks for letting me vent here!

Funny side note. While typing this I am laughing because I can hear my girlfriend snoring in the other room and it sounds like the alarm on the Death Star in Star Wars

Apartments in this game have single-handedly got the be both the most disappointing thing, and yet the thing with the most untapped potential, as far as addressing the housing issue goes. So much potential there, yet largely unchanged and unused since its inception in 3.4.

I totally agree. I will say I have an apartment in the game and it is very limited. The apartments can be alot better if they add to it.

I disagree here. Not everyone is as invested in housing and there are other gil sinks in the game. There are already a variety of mounts that cost millions of gil on the market board - and I would rather spend my gil on obtaining them or crafting (I wish they were less expensive though). I'm guilty of hoarding gil myself but the game practically throws currency at you. It's on you to find ways to use it for something other than housing. A small plot only costs no more than five million gil anyways.

Market Board isn't a gil drain, its Gil being transfer from one player to another. Gil drain I am referring to is to buy something and the gil is gone. I agree not everyone is about housing, and I still learning a lot about this game. I may not have seen the other gil drains, but I feel from what I have seen there should be something.

I feel the game could use more gil sinks too. If Housing was more widely available I might not feel the same way and would probably say "it's fine", but here we are.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

It does have the tax and delivery fee, which are gil drains. A majority of it is transferred though.

As someone mentioned, it's really difficult, maybe impossible to design a gil sink that works for all players. It would need to be expensive enough to drain gil from the richest players, desirable enough for them to want to buy it, consumable so they need to buy it repeatedly, yet at the same time unimportant enough that the players who can afford it only occasionally or not at all won't be disadvantaged without it. It's pretty much guaranteed that there will be some rich players who are just not interested in the gil sink, unless it comes in the form of an outright tax which takes away part of their money every month.

I don't think it's true that the devs don't care about the housing situation. I think it's more that they don't really know how to fix it within the structure of the game, both technically and general design-wise. Many people suggest getting rid of housing neighbourhoods and just going with a one house per instance option, but would this technically work within how FF14 is coded? We know that FF14 is, frankly, a complete f'in mess on a technical/coding level. And, even if it could work, what about all of the players who do have houses and love the neighbourhood system? Going to a single house per instance model would be a giant middle finger to them. Of course, we also know that they can't just keep adding more neighbourhoods either because of the technical load and server requirement. Basically, the devs have backed themselves into a corner with Housing and there isn't any real way to "fix it" without causing more problems, assuming that the "fix" is even something that can be implemented. I do think it would be nice to have the devs straight up admit to this and lay it out for us all so we can stop debating it but I don't think them not doing so means they don't care.

As for gil sinks in general, it's always a dangerous topic because we have players who have a billion gil and players who can barely hold onto a couple mill at a time. We have players who just sort of get by and players who have gil earning built into their daily routines and they accumulate wealth even when not trying. Putting, let's say, a mount that costs 200 million gil into the game wouldn't do much. For the most wealthy players or even those with a steady stream of incoming gil, 200 mill is basically pocket change. For the less wealthy, 200 mill is something they may never even see and so it's not even even aspirational. The same goes with any saveable currency like MGP or even Veteran Rewards, which is why they stopped adding more Veteran Reward items.

Considering houses are technically instanced to begin with, yes, at least the interiors are. It is loaded upon entering and closed upon leaving. I can't see it being overly difficult to do the same to the exterior as well but I'm not that tech savvy.
