FFXIV and SqEnix vs WoW and Blizzard - My Perspective

Oh this point. There is a YT video titled "WOW REFUGEE EXPLAINS SHADOWBRINGERS TRAILER" At the start of this video Scott states that WoW players are not gamers, they are WoW players. They have NOT played any other games. They jumped on the WoW train when the game was mega popular and thus WoW is all they know and feel it's the best there is.

What's funny is, Asmongold did a reaction video to the one above and agreed 100% on this point (and many other points in the video).

Having seen that over the years I would agree. They are WoW players. few I met over my time there had set foot in, or considered any other games and thus, WoW was " the best ever" and did everything first. everything else is just a WoW clone. you feel sorry for them, but since everyone is entitled to their opinion... you kinda just have to back away, smile and nod.. and look for actual gamers...

I have not played Wow in some time. I stopped seriously playing at wrath of lich king and gave up completely after mists of pandaria which I loved from a casual perspective.

My honest thought was the fault tends to lie with the players. There’s a huge element of the player base who are just far too jaded and far too hostile. The 4chan crowd as it were.

I don’t want to judge people but just feel those guys are never going to be happy and seem quite unhappy in life in general. I mean wow was their life.

I’ve seen a few jaded mentors in the novice network always crying about simple jobs and bad players and things and generally they all came from wow. These kinda people treat mmos as life as opposed to a game and it’s just going to be hard to seperate them.

SE tends to pander less and there’s a much younger happier demo in this game in general.

Because of the questionable decisions the WoW developers have made over the last few years, players are jaded and unhappy. Any bad feedback is usually met with condescending Twitter posts or outright dismissal on the forums, usually to the tune of "Yeah, we hear you, but we're gonna do this anyway". They see their way as the only way. It doesn't matter what the players want. The dev team created this rift and it is only getting bigger as time goes on. There is a clear disdain for the player base on behalf of the devs, and the player base has only reciprocated it.

That doesn't make their poor behavior right when it comes to FF XIV, but you should probably try to understand what they've been dealing with. It also isn't all of them, thankfully, but I understand it can be frustrating. I would probably be considered a WoW veteran. I've got 11 years of WoW under my belt and I am also an older player in the MMO world. I've been there from the best of times to their worst. And yet I still consider myself to be pretty friendly. I'd say most probably are after playing FF XIV. That salt is hard for some to let go of though.

On the flip side of things, the FF XIV dev team remains in relatively frequent contact with their player base, acknowledge their issues and address what I'd say would be most of them, for better or worse. They try. I just don't think they quite know what the player base wants sometimes so they take a guess. I also question their priorities sometimes, but at least they are doing things. Again, they try. I wish I could say the same about modern day Blizzard, but...they have stopped trying and caring. So I have too and moved on for now.

That may be part of it but honestly, and I really don’t want to stereotype it, but I feel it attracted a certain type of person who was going to be that kind of person regardless of what blizzard did or did not do. I’m talking about 4chan/Reddit types here.

When I played the game was very fun and while it had flaws as a video game it was really cool. The absolute worse thing about TBC was the player base. The expansion itself was Shadowbringers level of good.

But while we in the main are like wow Shadowbringers is so cool, these types of players (which wasn’t all but a big amount) were looking for the one flaw. We get that here too but it’s a minority opinion which is usually shouted down by the majority. Where as with WoW forums it was allowed to dominate and turn the other players towards negativity too.

I want to add a bit of a different perspective.

The biggest con to FF14 is that if you get into, no matter how friendly your FC is you will not be able to do next to any content with them for a very very very very very very long time. You have 4 entire expansions to slog through before you're finally on the same content to play with friends.

So in reality FF14 for new players is a single player game with an ingame discord chat.

WoW while having a worse community, you can join the game and within a short time be in the same content as your friends and people you play with.

I feel FF14 is very hard for new players to really get attached to FC's and establish friends when you just never play with them because you're new and in ARR and they're finished and maxed. So besides them running you through content there isn't anything you can do together. So the maxed people talk with the other people they run with and you end up feeling like a 3rd wheel that doesn't belong.

People often compare the communities and say ‘wow the friendly FF14 community’ when someone is a bit snarky...

But there’s no comparison between the two. Wow is the absolute gutter of the internet. You can’t compare them in terms of communities. One is a normal community full of everyday people and one is pewdiepies comment section.

This is because "statics" are a consequence of a game that used to be dying so people formed groups across server as their own servers were dead or dying. FC's are technically supposed to be guilds that you do everything with but because the Savage content is only 8 man this MMO has never evolved to suit more difficult content that needs more coordination.

As for "new players" this is just shockingly uninformed given the amount of new people I see joining vs when I played WoW for several years. WoW's solution to your complaint was to basically gut the leveling experience, make it meaningless and have you get to max level as soon as possible burning through one expansions content that you will quickly forget.

My question to you if you get to end game in an RPG but have literally no clue what is going on then what is the point?
