I normally don't get excited for Christmas anything, but that mount...I NEED IT!This part of the live letter for anyone curious.
How were readers to know you were joking? There is no tone of voice, additional comment or other context to let us know it's supposed to be one. It'sa standard type of statement made by doomsayers who claim a game is dying.
Just add a /s to the end next time to avoid misunderstandings.
Or how about people get some reading comprehension? Also, to stop taking everything as an attack? I put a smiley at the end, apparently that isn't even enough anymore for people to understand sarcasm. How were readers to know you were joking? If anyone thought I was "doomsaying", they are projecting.

How about just saying what you mean instead of expecting people who don't know you to guess your mind? If someone isn't a member of your personal circle of friends, they're unlikely to know when you're being sarcastic and when you're not unless you clearly state you're being sarcastic.
You want reading comprehension? Let's go for it.
That's all you gave us to work. It was a random insertion into a discussion about Starlight Celebration so we can't use the discussion for context outside of FFXIV being the game you're referring to.
You used the word "though" at the end of the question, which indicates doubt. Adding "actually even" into the question indicates the doubt is fairly strong.
You strongly doubt anyone will be playing the game in a week and are asking others if they agree.
The "Big Grin" emoji - happiness, excitement, anticipation, gloating, different people use it in different ways.
So are you happy you there may not be people playing the game next week?
Excited about that possibility?
Anticipating that possibility?
Gloating over that possibility?
All those possible uses of "Big Grin" give your statement of doubt the appearance of an attack on the game, especially since forum users saying "no one will be playing this game in a week" and similar things has practically become an idiom within the gaming community for "this game sucks and I hope it dies".
You're the first person I've met who claims the "Big Grin" emoji indicates sarcasm. You would have been better off using the "Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)" emoji though in this case it might still have been misinterpreted.
If you had just said what you meant instead of assuming strangers on the internet would automatically know you were being sarcastic, it would have avoided the misunderstanding. Saying "People will be playing this game next week" would have still been out of context for the discussion, but no one would have interpreted it as an attack.
There's no one projecting their own "doomsayer" feelings here, just some posters assuming (understandably but evidently incorrectly) that you meant the game is failing then expressing their disagreement.
I'm not in this person's circle of friends and found it easy to see that he is saying no one will be playing FFXIV next week because of the most anticipated game in the history of mankind is releasing. Its obviously a joke. I don't know how you interpreted that as him saying this game sucks or is dead lol. I would also advocate for SE to delete all jobs but Samurai for the next week in order to celebrate this release. How about just saying what you mean instead of expecting people who don't know you to guess your mind? You could interpret that post in more then one way, so id say im closer to Jojo then you on this. When I read the post in question i thought it was side-eyeing the new patch content that will release next week. And the only reason i even know what "most anticipated" game youre talking about is because others a page or two ago said which one it is.I'm not in this person's circle of friends and found it easy to see that he is saying no one will be playing FFXIV next week because of the most anticipated game in the history of mankind is releasing. My God.
Yeah, and not only that it's a single player game, but I guess I am "doomsaying". Apparently my joke warranted a reply so large I had to remove their quote.I'm not in this person's circle of friends and found it easy to see that he is saying no one will be playing FFXIV next week because of the most anticipated game in the history of mankind is releasing. I might as well make it plain for some people here: Cyberpunk is a single player rpg, FFXIV is an ongoing mmorpg. People won't be quitting the game permanently to play Cyberpunk. The Christmas events in this game generally last from the middle of the month to the new year, most players will probably have gotten a playthrough out of Cyberpunk and come right back to this game and do the Christmas event. For that matter people, the Christmas (holiday) events usually don't take that long to do. "Doomsaying", right. People need to exercise some critical thinking.

Just because some people can't pick up on humour it doesn't mean that every last little comment needs to be picked apart or explained in-depth. Then again, I can't claim to be surprised that elements of the FFXIV community are both unable to detect humour/sarcasm and are isolated enough to not be aware of major upcoming video-game releases!
I, personally, don't have any idea what this "most anticipated game" could be, so that 'joke' fell particularly flat.I'm not in this person's circle of friends and found it easy to see that he is saying no one will be playing FFXIV next week because of the most anticipated game in the history of mankind is releasing. Next Tuesday is the release of Patch 5.4. Intimating that no one would be playing it in a week is, in that context, disparaging at the least.
The post came off as "who cares about the Starlight Celebration? There aren't going to be players next week, so why bother?"
Not the intention of the poster, by their own words. After the fact.
Yoshi-P has even urged people to play other games in official interviews and talks about them himself in passing. So if some of you only want to play FFXIV and nothing else? Fine - but it's not the intended method of consumption and the game certainly isn't designed to allow for that ordinarily.
I've never played Among Us, yet I've heard of it because of the recent explosion in the game's popularity. I'm inclined to think some of the lack of knowledge of Cyberpunk might even be feigned in some cases.
