When you put an item up for sale on the marked board the NPC vendor sale price gets automatically filled in. If you are lowering that price, you are doing something wrong. We don't need any further notice.

If you initially list it higher and then reduce the price in response to someone undercutting you (perhaps multiple times) it's not so obvious though. You have to hover over the item and check the tooltip for the NPC vendor price.
