So should we scream Gunner Job confirmed because Merlywb will be using all her Gunner Job skills in a Story Instance as a NPC ally for the upcoming 5.4 MSQ?![]()
She's never had unique combat animations, actually. When she appeared in Ala Mhigo for example, she just used the default MCH autoattack animations. So the animations she's seen using in the trailer were newly made.
Frankly this is at least as indicitive of a new job as Alisaie in 3.4, maybe moreso. I highly doubt they made new animations just for Merlwyb only to be used here.

Can't say I see them adding another "gun" job, not while MCH is right there..?

I get CHM, but where does GEM come from? The AST story? If so then that was like two expansions ago. And aren't GEMs healer too? At least that's what I vaguely remember from the story.

Tbh I think we have enough "elemental" magic DPS atm...
I'm not saying Geo wouldn't fit, because it does. Just that with BLM RDM and (to some small degree SmN pets) we have "enough" element in the magic DPS.department.
This is why I'd rather see the Time Mage. I also think TIM would work well as a DoT oriented DPS (a bit like an affliction warlock in wow). With emphases on hasting dot ticking , extending duration etc.
ATM the closest thing we have to a dot management caster is the BLM as it's the only job were decision making is important regarding your dot management. Other dot based job have their dot more as a CD that you press whenever it's up (like, SmN has nearly no dot management as you simply refresh them instantly with trip disaster 75% of the time. And BRD simply need to refresh once 30s. I think we need more than that to call these job "dot Jobs". A bit like wether or not the SMN is a proper pet job or not, if your pet is a glorified perma dot, that's hardly a "pet job")
The Four Lords questline deals with Geomancy too. The Swallows Compass is ALL Geomancy.
The AST questline was just a tiny snippet of Geomancy in one of it's aspects, sealing things with a barrier, and specifically Hingan Geomancy, which we know is different from Yanxian Geomancy in the Swallows Compass.
There's also Onmyoji, which deals with blood sacrifices and dark magic and is partially outlawed in Hingashi, the counterpart to Geomancy similar to how Eorzea has White/Black magic. However, they're not a mirror of White/Black magic, they're more like how Conjury and Thaumaturgy were in 1.0 with both classes serving as parts of both White and Black mage.
In other words, it's not that Geomancer is a healer and Onmyoji is a cast dps, their roles are less clearly defined. Judging by Swallows Compass, they could end up being inverted. With Geomancer as a wind/earth/water caster, and Onmyoji as a dark healer.

I mean, dual wielded pistols would be a different sort of marksmanship. The same way that swords, greatswords, gunblades, katanas, daggers/ninjato can all be seen as different types of swordplay.
It leaves itself open to different animations than MCH has (less acrobatic perhaps) - and if they make CHM a healer most of the animations will be casts related to potion mixing anyway most likely to keep a balance with the other healers.
