    My 2 gil on this.

I'm always end game crafter / gatherer. I usually have 100M gil on hand. Its enough. My only expensive vice is blowing materia up. I don't get to do that often.

I don't need more. I am capable of making 100sK with a few hours work. Why should I?

This is not to denigrate those who play to max out the gil counter or collect all the things. There are many ways to play MMOs. For my way 100M is a comfortable cushion, nothing more.

My personal opinion is I'm not very concerned about the Skysung tools. I started on one of them but pretty much lost interest. I simply don't see the point of them. Now, if it were some type of special tool that could be used by every DoH job and open up a bunch of room in my armory chest, that would be worth my time.

They're the DoH/DoL version of the DoM/DoW relic weapons for those who focus on crafting/gathering and not combat for their end game.

The only point to any of them is to give players something to do over the course of an expansion.

We're not going to get a universal crafting tool anymore than we're going to get a universal combat weapon. It's the change of weapon that determines what class/job we're using at a given moment so they need to remain unique to class/job.

that would be literally impossible without ripping the very guts out of the armoury system, and they're not going to do that without a very good reason.

It does seem awfully grindy. Especially since at least the first three stages can be macroed (didn't finish my macro for the fourth stage yet, but that shouldn't be too hard since it only needs 30k quality at the minimum). You're just sitting there, activating your crafting macro every 40 seconds or so. It's enough of a distraction that you can't concentrate on anything useful, but not active enough to be engaging. And the result is only marginally better than a fairly conservatively melded aesthete tool. I guess I'll finish the one I started, but dunno how many more I can stomach to sit through.

You're implying here that everybody uses macros with this when such is not the case?

Otherwise it is just the same recipe over and over again so the point still stands I guess.

Yeah, still grindy even if you do it manually. Special statuses may spice it up a little if you bother to pay attention to them - but on the other hand you're completely chained to pressing buttons and can't even really watch a movie or anything on the side.

I'm well aware not everyone can make macros but I'd expect a lot of people to go to the forums or other websites to find ready-made ones.

It only takes about 45 minutes to make the 39 items to upgrade a tool from Dragonsung to Skysung. Using HQ materials (very easy to get) trivializes it even more. I had no problems getting the crafting tools completed on all 4 of my characters.

I don't see how that can be considered grindy. I would agree there's some grind to the gathering tools (I've still got to finish those up on my alts) but not the crafting, and even the grind on the gathering tools isn't that bad.

If you don't enjoy using macros, then don't? You can get things done even faster if you don't use them so you're taking better advantage of your Good/Excellent procs. Macros are for players looking for convenience.

An unmelded HQ Aesthete tool is still superior to scrip tools most are using, or would be using if it wasn't for the Dragonsung/Skysung tools, and equivalent to one with basic melds. To you it may not seem worth the effort. I'm sure others disagree.

Which is par for the course. Most players don't want to learn how to craft, they just want the benefits of crafting.

Plus another 45 minutes for getting from prototype to Dragonsung, because I haven't done those yet. Times 8 crafting classes because I'm an omnicrafter. That's 12 hours. And I'm not sure what the gathering tools require. I suppose it won't be too bad if I do it a little bit at a time instead of all at once.

Maybe if the crafts were difficult enough that I would actually need the procs. But after a certain amount of repetitions it starts to feel pointless since I know the recipes are macroable. And doing them with macros at least allows me to watch videos on the side, as noted.

Yeah, I probably won't actually need Skysung tools. They seem more like a prestige thing, so I suppose they can be a bit grindy. I was already able to macro-craft Neo-Ishgardian gear with Facet gear, so I expect Aesthete will be enough for the next tier (which should be the last in this expansion).

There's a topic about skysteel upgrades on the teaser site, so even though they absoluty won't be necessary for hq battle gear, perhaps the upcoming version could surpass expansive crafter melds on MH and so, it could be good to try the restoration ranking as 5.31 wasn't consistently that easy even with full expensive melds
