Tataru is an ascian incoming. Jar Jar Binks of our team lol.I mean, there are thousands over thousands of possibilities but that doesn't mean each and every of them has any significant reason to be true. There could be a compressed Divina Omega Ultima Weapon hidden under Tataru's table but that doesn't mean we have any reason to believe there is. We could go on and on about possibilities if we go through the line of the "could"-s.
And for all we know, Sharlayan has shown themselves to be utterly isolationist at most and pretty averse to wage war on their neighbours, to the point of being willing to abandon a colony at the first moment Garlemard set its sights on Eorzea. To suddenly become a menace on the star would be nothing short of a complete 180º change.
From what we've seen of Sharlayan, they tend to be a lot more interested in hoarding said knowledge than actually using it. When faced with a possible conflict with the Garleans, rather than stick around and use their incredible magical and technological knowledge to fight, they just kinda... ran off back to their island. Hell, from what we can tell, the Garleans never even got CLOSE to Idyllshire, and yet they evacuated the whole damn area "just to be safe". They'd rather abandon an entire city than even risk the possibility of being involved in such affairs.
Nations with such intense policies of neutrality and isolationism don't tend to become big world-conquering empires.

Then I guess they also aren't the type of location we'll never explore then in 6.0. /sigh. Maybe as a Relic Zone at best? (Eureka did set a precedent)

Unexpected Merlwyb growth arc.
With how incredibly well Emet-Selch was received, I think we may well be journeying with our antagonist again.
Or at least running into them often enough that we might as well be traveling together.
Not unless there's something that happens suddenly like "SH*T IS GOING DOWN IN SHARLAYAN, WE NEED YOUR HELP, WoL!"
The possibility of that happening is not zero, but right now, sh*t is going down in exactly one place: the Garlean Empire.

I feel they kind of screwed the pooch here to be honest regarding the scions. With some exceptions, we really weren’t that involved with the scions in 2.0-4.0. I never felt like part of their team until 5.0; up until then I was always the glorified errand boy/Alphinaud’s babysitter.
No hate for the scions, just always felt I was my own faction...I mean they never joined me on my adventures until they were practically forced to in 5.0. Am I even a member of the scions? Even the minor characters like hoary boulder...who is this guy? Why is he so chummy with me? Sure I’d love to hang out with him sometime.
Now, a general TLC update, with adjustments to story and trust system implemented at 2.0 could be fantastic.
Alternatively have them show up in instances like the Ala Migho or Gimlyt Dark dungeon to help. Anything to show me they are actively fighting for or with me.

Other than my main man Alphinaud and my bff Alisaie, I'd like to team up with Fordola. Really get to know her, help her out in her redemption run.

The Garleans had a Castrum in Coerthas that was still in use prior to the Calamity. West by Southwest in the Central Highlands. That's easy airship distance to Idyllshire right there. From what we've seen of Sharlayan, they tend to be a lot more interested in hoarding said knowledge than actually using it. Word, your perception of events is strange to me. We literally got involved with the Scions prior to level 20. Everything we do is under their auspices and guidance. I could see why people think they feel absent, due to the whole surprise attack on HQ. But the Scions are there every step of the way, though usually only one or two at a time.I feel they kind of screwed the pooch here to be honest regarding the scions. With some exceptions, we really weren’t that involved with the scions in 2.0-4.0. They literally all come, even Minfilia, to observe/prevent/stop Leviathan. They're all there, sans Minfilia for Ramuh. They join in at the Stillglade Fane meeting for Good King Moggle Mog.
I mean, sure they go absent again for 3.0, but post game HW, 3.1 to 3.55 is nothing but travels, trials, and tribulations with finding them and getting back on track with the saving the world from the Ascians schtick. We even fight the Warriors of Darkness alongside the Scions in Southern Thanalan. To me, it's like they're omnipresent, save for that small 10~ or so level span in ARR and 3.0. Always felt like I was onboard with them. Like, sure, we don't get to use them in dungeons, but they fight alongside us in instanced battles and cutscenes. /shrug
As for Hoary Boulder. I know the second string are easily forgettable, since most of their dialogue comes between scenes, but Hoary Boulder is a second string Scion who does a mock duel with you in Mor Dhona. He's chummy with you, because he sought to become a Scion because of you. He's basically a big fan that wants to be just like you.
