I brought up their attempts to give the "hardcore" doh/dol players something to do like Ishgard firmament rankings, relics, etc.

The overarching point, which seems to have flown right over your head, was that every time they make a particular system easier it's done under the philosophy that people have a life outside of the game to spend it with family and other activities, as Yoship explains.
I think we all understand the sentiment and while it's certainly endearing, YoshiP should realize that this philosophy can be achieved on multiple levels. Not just the one, which is currently casual.

We're not asking to put our lives aside for the sake of the game.
What I think we would appreciate is variation in the content given to us.

Give us 4 man hard dungeons that acknowledges that we have a brain and challenges one to think and be strategic.
Make a different tier of treasure maps with mobs that spawn that have enemies from 100+PoTD or 80+HoH like mechanics.
We have Ultimates that are essentially timeless and current because it scales to our ilvl. Why not give us this option to scale ilvls in other content and actually make it hard ?

How I see it is that YoshiP fears that just because something has just that extra hit of difficulty, the casual majority will instantly feel threatened. Or that if he does add an option of difficulty, then casual players will cry that they're being excluded when in fact that's not what it is. Keep what is already there. The baseline. Simply allow for "above and beyond" like options onto the baseline content for those who desire the challenge. To me, it's not about a title or being able to boast. It's about the choice of experience.

It's disheartening that nowadays I log in wanting to raid, but tired of raids, and with no other venue to have the same type of challenge. The same goes for crafting. I never cared to make money and never became a crafter to make money. I just wanted an experience that actually made me feel like "I put in the work and it was fun as hell". It's all just trivial now.

Back in SB didn't they nerf Shinryu EX BEFORE it was even released because casual players complained about normal version being too hard ? I think He is already showing what you're saying
