Former FFXI Players, What Will XIV BST Be Like? No Wrong Answers.

Just for fun.....I feel XI BST know the disappointment of mmo pet jobs more than anybody.......XI BST was meh...compared to other mmo pet classes, or SMN in XI.

In World of Warcraft (I know, XIV players hate that game) you can pretty much tame anything as hunter. You could even tame bosses. Imo, in FFXIV, nothing outside of Primals should be off limits to the BST rotational roster.

In FFXI, you really could not tame much.........
The addition of jugs killed off monster variety charming had. The devs dictated the pets players could have every update and it included repeat reskins mostly

BST was never really balanced as a group job. It was mostly due to the master and pet being able to dd imo. Maybe the master does not dd at all....but simply issue commands to pets that appear for a brief moment, then vanish....

I feel this is possible, because it follows SMN to an extent. So....It does not require an entirely new mechanic imo.

A lot of people do not want it to not be limited, but actually...It could be both. In theory, the monster hunting can be the solo/limited aspect.....But outside of those instances, it functions like a normal job. The limited part only improves your rotational roster of pets you throw at the monsters during battles.

I feel the anti-Limited job post may get to them.....And BST becomes the 1st hybrid.

What do you think BST, if added, will be like?

If BST is indeed added to XIV it won't play like XI's most likely since the games are so different.

BST was a bit of a pain to have in parties if their charmed pet was too strong but that was true of having too strong a party member and was easily worked around. It could charm nearly the entire gamut of species and was the de facto solo job (barring RDM on NMs) with the more skilled BSTs on a server able to do feats others wish they could.

Later on in XI's life the devs wanted to make BST more party friendly so jug pets became the standard and soloing was nearly forgotten outside of certain circumstances, like most of XI's jobs it had nuance and individual competency/skill ceilings so I fully don't expect it to be similar at all outside of superficial ways.

If it does make it in I wouldn't be surprised if it's a pet catalogue with an attached mini-game (perhaps a better Lord of Vermilion?).

Most likely a limited job like BLU. FFXI players will hate it, everyone else will complain bitterly because it won't be usable for endgame and will be banned from Duty Finder, but I will probably have fun with it.

Bst was a unique class in ffxi. Was the best solo class outside high tier nms. Soloing High tier nms went to rdm/nin.

Bst dmg was horrible in groups due to the fact jug pets had major accuracy and damage scaling issues against IT mobs and charmed mobs strong enough to make a different against IT coning mobs gave major xp penalties. Jug pets primarily were used for soloing weaker mobs which they just rip apart or for oh **** moments for if you failed a charm. Charmed mobs were almost always vastly superior in every way. Bst by itself without the pet was a stripped down warrior. Basically had the axe abilities war had but lacked the self dmg increasing abilities war had. So in leveling groups you had a near worthless pet and gimp damage dealer.

Endgame wise there were some things where bst was actually usable, but typically you wanted to avoid feeding TP to mobs to any HNM or High Tier Boss. So having 2 weak dmg sources feeding tp would be a massive negative. Progression wise there was several story missions where bst was the end all be all best class in the game. Aquaducts for example in COP. Charm an IT+++ conning mob and 2hr it and you could almost solo the boss. Basically had a pet as strong as a whole party for 30mins. But overall bst was a subpar choice for most group content. But with that said I also say it was perfectly balanced in XI. It was not a standard party job and it created a unique playstyle that whole guilds were formed around. Also unlocked the ability for any class to solo in the game as the charm ability of the subjob was based off the primary level of the bst instead of the subjob's limited level.

Bst changed alot post abysea. But then again FFXI and FFXI-2 (Post Abysea) are sorta two different beast all together.

As for Bst in FFXIV if they add them.

I expect a stripped down limited class designed for solo only play that has something similar to Pokemon pet battles for their "Endgame" activity which drop vanity gear, mounts, obsolete tomes, and titles. There is simply no possible way to make bst as it was back then work in ffxiv. Other option I could see is a melee version of ffxiv's smn if they make it a main job. Picture a melee dps with say 75% of mnks dps output with the pet dealing the missing 25%.

Since you said no wrong answers....
They will never be added to XIV as a normal job; the XIV devs believe that pet jobs need have the summon out as a dot. They have a very narrow view about what a pet job is supposed to be.

Instead of asking for Beastmaster, we'd be better off coming up with a new kind of pet job with a brand new name so it's not held back by its FFXI incarnation.

No wrong answer? Alright, I rather have it as a normal job. Otherwise no. FFXI made it fun and I rather not let FFXIV ruin beastmaster. In FFXI it was a very fun job and I really enjoyed it so I rather not let FFXIV sour my jubilation of Beastmaster as a whole. If they wanna do it, implement it normally. It'll be SMN but except it'll be Melee plus take inspiration from FFXI instead of relying on charm, they use an off-hand pot to summon their beast/pets. FFXIV can do like SMN but I rather wait for it than have it in 6.0 or as a normal or limited job, mainly cause they need to revamp the pet system as there is a bit of delays sometimes with pet actions.

For the people that say 'It is a good way to recycle and replay old content' (With Blue Mage), you're really going to ignore the duty roulettes that allows you to replay old content? I get that you wanna play as a Blue Mage but just know that the Flat Damage and Instant Kill spells won't work on some bosses (only works on some of the first and second bosses of dungeons, any other bosses and they'll resist it) and you have to use PF and find people who will have the spare time to participate (Which is either organised or rare) with it when your friends or free company mates are literally doing... Bozja, Relic (DoW,M,C,G), Ishgard Achievements, Raiding and many other content that Blue Mage can't participate normally without a premade party or alliance. At least normal job contribute something of worth at end game while Blue Mage just gives achievements, titles, minions and mounts which is nothing compared to the stuff you get at endgame.

That is what will happen with Beastmaster as well. I rather not let it go through what Blue Mage is going through right now, so for now it is best they don't add it in until they are ready to add it as a normal job and improve the pet system further.

If they create Beast Master, I hope they do something fun with it!

If it is a limited job, I sure hope it isn’t just another paint job over Blue Mage.

Veteran players already have played FFXIV. I personally don’t want another job that makes me go do everything all over again just for a mount.

Make it fun and engaging. Make it have unique gear, make it make me use my brain beyond using my memory.

Give it unique traits like “+10% minion drop rate” so there is real incentive to level it.

Just anything that doesn’t use the exact same “higher item level/memory-scripted” copy pasted formula that’s been used since level 15 party content.

I don't know but as a former BLU main in FFXI my guess is that it will make redundant or impossible, everything that anyone who mained BST in XI enjoyed about the job.

No wrong answers? Ok. Make it like Ranger in Dragon Age Origins.

You start being able to summon 3 monsters to fight by your side. One that's like a DPS, one that's tankier and one that's ranged. Obviously we don't want to overtake any other jobs in FFXIV so I could see something like a beast that does a DOT, one that attacks directly, one that does an AOE. one that buffs, etc. What was interesting about that class was that as you improved in level/skill, so too did your beasts. They'd become stronger versions of themselves -- quality over quantity.

"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.
