Not defending SE, but the housing website specifically stated new wards are free for all for the first purchase, afterwards and in any other wards, homes that are relocated from, relinquished, and demolished and what not will be placed on a timer.

The problem is that, despite the information on the website being accurate, people were buying houses in the new wards then relocating from that new house to another house. The plot has then been bought and relinquished and is no longer on its first purchase, so the timer applies.

Basically it's an unfortunate oversight that they may learn from and plan for next time.

Just from skimming all the new posts this morning I see a lot of people apologizing because they bought a house, saw a better plot was still open, and relocated without thinking about it.
I'm not sure even half of the relocation timers were placed by trolls.

That could've prevented people from forcing timers on new wards, that's why.
I agree, timers sucks either way, and in no way I'm defending its existance in the first place. Rework of the entire system was a necessity for a long time, still is. I just thought about something that could've help even a little in some way with the thing we already have.

it would be no different than you buying a plot and then suddenly seeing a another plot that opened up that was more desirable location, view, what not within a few minutes and you doing the same thing.

Considering the plots across all locales on Mateus were gone within 5 or so minutes, I'd think very, very few decided to relocate to a house over if they still had time. I'm not saying that all the plots on a timer now are because of trolls, but I'm more than willing to bet that the vast majority of new ward plots on timers in higher pop servers are due to assholes being assholes.

It'd be nice if they split up releasing the ward by timezone. Like several houses for this timezone, several for another, etc.
That way people that work like my friend wouldn't miss out.

I would suggest a cooldown period, whereby houses in new wards don't go on the timer at all, even after relocating, for a short period of time.
Say 1 or 2 hours.

That wouldn't be enough for housing resales to be a real issue, but long enough that people who change their minds aren't inconveniencing others, and by the time those couple hours are up, the impact of trolls will be less significant.

All of this is because housing in FF XIV is like Battle Royale. To be honest, this is depressing and does not cause any desire to do it further. I don't know how the developers planned to support the existing player base by declaring a moratorium on transferring houses and adding only three wards.

A battle royale that you get to play once every two years or so. I finally got a small house today, was lucky to get that, but I've never been fond of this system even though it can make a neighbourhood look pretty amazing. It has so many scalpers/people buying up lots of real estate, there's clearly way too few mediums/larges (SE really should have made Shirogane have double or triple the larges/mediums, same with Ishgard).

There is no questioning that housing is so important to a large number of players (if it weren't, you wouldn't have hundreds trying to get in on patch day with all new plots gone in 10-20 minutes). Not sure why they're so stubborn on this. I get that to people who don't care about housing at all this might seem silly, but imagine if this method were applied to any other part of the game.

Imagine if when a new MSQ comes out, only the first thousand players per server got to experience it. Imagine if when a new Ult/Ex/Savage came out, after 100 clears the raids were shut down and from then on nobody else was allowed to attempt it unless they'd cleared it already. Imagine if only players who queued for pvp on day one of ARR ever got to pvp for the entire remainder of the game unless one of those players stopped playing, at which point a spot would open up. It'd be utter BS, and we know it'd be utter BS, and it'd kill the interest of almost all players into those specific activities entirely- yet for some reason that's fine for housing?

Yes, that's what I'm saying happened. Not me personally, but that's exactly why it's happening and why there are timers in the new wards.

I'm not complaining, just stating a fact.
