They've gotten better AI developed and given it to trusts. Backport that into squads and they should be able to clear more and go through stormblood. Don't just expand trusts all the way down, expand squads all the way up.
I think you have more trust (heh) in the trusts system than what you should have. Trusts are NOT adaptive AIs, they're SCRIPTED AIs...Or in other words, the AI has to be tailored for each individual dungeon, Its not as simple as plugging the AI in to previous dungeons and having them tag along with the player.

The current squadron AI isnt even truly adaptive, but its got ZERO scripted behaviour in it, which is why we have the ability to order them around, why they stand in aoes, and why the Independent, Defensive etc stances are required. Still despite all this, this dumbed down AI still needs to be tailored to each dungeon, evidenced by the fact that you can't just run them in ANY dungeon you'd like.

That being said, i do feel like they're due for an update, if only just because they're STILL using Stormblood skills. I did a Squadron dungeons a few weeks ago for the rank up to captain and it honestly made me a little bitter that the NPCs could still use butchers block, but i couldn't. They used Ultimatum and Largesse too, even.
Evidently those skills are still in the games files, the animations are still there....and im mad i cant use them!

At least they removed Protect from them. I really expected after I heared that they wanted to remove that skill that the new meta would be to enter a Squadron dungeon to get Protect and then leave and party up for the savage raid (at least until hotfix).
But surprisingly SE thought about this and removed the skill from them beforehand :O

A while ago I did some jobquest and one of the NPCs there casted a Stoneskin onto me right before the enemies died. Was a good feeling to run around with the good old Stoneskin for half an hour ^^

And yes, please update the Squadron and fill the 60-71 gap in AI dungeons.

As someone who started playing in ShB, it's surreal going into a command mission or an old quest duty and half the skills that NPCs use are totally unfamiliar to me. And a lot of them do look cool as hell! But on the other hand it's also kind of cool that NPCs still use them, because it lends a feeling of them being unique characters with their own abilities that don't just copy the players'.
