Where its cash shop annoys me is there aren't many in game rewards in ESO. Costumes, pets, mounts and most of the interesting housing items are shop only. You are right that you can obtain these for no more than the cost of a sub due to the crown system but I wish there were ways to get them in game (and I say this as someone who often subs). Pets or mounts obtained via fishing would be fun, for example.

I might be getting off topic, sorry. ESO is a game with amazing bones. It has the potential to be stellar but bizarre choices and bugs that endure seemingly forever keep it from ever fully reaching its potential for me.
For me its mostly the battle system, which is clunky at best and has no sense of force or power. It feels like your bringing a nerf gun to a firefight. And the way the cutscenes are set up in traditional Elder Scrolls style were its just an NPC talking to the camera with some minor emotes and maybe a little music in the background, its....boring, and makes the story feel that way too. There is no sense of urgency or threat, no matter the dialog.

On the flip side, for ffxiv its the lack of long term goals, making it so there is little need to log in a week or so after an update. I like mmos worlds I can live in and frankly I would have less hesitation to make online store purchases if I were able to do more than log in and run puppet's bunker once a week. And everything being reduced to such basic systems. Like the battle system, it feels powerful, but there really isn't much to it outside of dodging and dps. Honestly, if this game just had less of a content conveyer belt and more content you could submerge yourself in and some content being more tactical than slamming keys, I think it would take this game to a whole new level and likely bring in an even bigger crowd since there would be something for more playstyles. I love this game, but I just have no reason to play it anymore, so why make so many, basically needless, purchases?

It's like so many games, from ESO to GW2 to FFXIV, get a few things right and a whole lot more wrong. I would love to pick these different pieces out of the various mmos I have played over the past 20 years and make a beautiful mmo chimera. If I ever win a giant lottery.... lol
