    So about the Collossi Rebicantus?

Alright I'm wondering about a variant of the Garlean colossi that appears in a few instances, the first being in Castrum Meridianum as a boss and the the other time as a miniboss of sort son the Gymlit Dark. I want o ask Moose and others what separates them from the regular Magitek Collossi Garlemald has and why they have that name apart from possible IV refernces.

The specific term is "Rubricatus," which literally just means "red" in Latin. So it's a red Magitek Colossus.

In fiction, red things tend to have a higher performance (i.e. Char Aznable's Red Comet from Gundam, which literally just looks like a standard issue Zaku painted red but with three times the speed). The color just denotes that it's better than standard Magitek Colossi.

See, that's why I went to all the effort of beating Memory Varis EX and getting enough Skybuilder's Scrips to get the Ruby Red dye - now I have a red GNB coat, which automatically makes it 100% cooler.

Well Magitek Collosi are just 'Iron Giants', so Rubicantes is just 'Red Giant'.
It's nothing more than a classic FF enemy, like Morbols, Coeurls, Ochu, etc.

For lore on Iron Giants outside of FFXIV, I'll give you a breakdown.

They first appear in FFII in Pandemonium, as the optional super random encounter, similar to Warmech from FFI, but far less dangerous, given the nature of FFII.

They next appear in that same format, with the big ass sword, in FFV in the Interdimensional Rift. Again, an optional random encounter rewarding huge EXP/ABP.

Next in FFVII, which is the first game where they take on a red appearance while still being the Iron Giants of yore.

FFVIII comes next with the same deal as FFVII, where there's a red boss version that's more powerful.

FFIX they appear sometimes in Memoria.

Next is FFX and FFX-2 where the design changes a decent amount, while still being the monster of yore.

After that, they were introduced into FFXI in 2010 in the Abyssea expansions with a more unique form, some with the ability to detach their head at certain intervals in the fight, and the head would fight you by shooting AOE lasers rapid fire style.

After that, they don't appear again until FFXIV, where you're already aware of everything about them.

They also appear in FFXV iirc

Note that the Armored Fiend or Red Giant in earlier translations that appear in FFIV are technically not the same enemy, as they have no relation to demons, but are instead remnant Lunarian tech. They do not sport giant swords, but instead have one claw hand and a megamanesque laser cannon arm.

The red thing is just what Cilia said it was, a denotation that they are a stronger form.

It's the "Magitek Colossus: Nero's Ego edition". It looks like his armour with the spiked helmet.
