PSA: Beware of the Necro Threads

I reported a dozen or more of his posts days ago.

I've been reporting every single instance I come across. Curious to see how long it takes the moderating team to do anything about it. If they do.
Either way it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. He seems to have so many accounts I wouldn't be surprised if he was RMT or something and just came back ad infinitum

I don't recall the OP's point exactly, so let's just assume for the benefit of the otter gate that it was dark and not particularly desirable, so these people who disliked the OP thread and wanted to see the thread transform from what it was into something else / shut it down started posting photos of otters and making otter puns. Like You're otterly cute! I saw this and I did technically warn people not to do that, I wasn't the only one if I recall that was like "this isn't going to end how you like it".

Because they derailed the thread they were all punished, and I can't recall if anything happened to OP. The response time for this action wasn't minutes but it was pretty quick if you compare it to someone running around reviving old threads for weeks lol.

Part of the problem though is often they've not broken a rule, just been frustrating to people. Frustrating isn't necessarily against the rules, and proving malice can be difficult. Maybe I'd compare it to how China bans freedom of speech on their side but then uses ours to bad mouth others. We could of course clamp down on them and become just like them, there might be a nice more balanced solution too of course, but some people will find it exceptionally frustrating that the rules are protecting someone who appears to be a bad actor while hurting those they feel are good actors.

Usually takes them a few days depending on how busy they are with things other than troll posts.

They'll give the posting ID a temporary ban as usual and he'll switch to a different posting ID until that one gets temporarily banned. Then he'll switch back to an ID no longer banned. Occasionally, they'll all be banned at the same time and we get a couple of weeks of peace (unless he starts up a new account to make a new troll posting ID) before the cycle begins again.

Trolling evidently doesn't warrant a permanent ban, which is why he gets to continue disrupting the forum with necros. Still worth reporting for those few weeks of peace we get.

I don't 100% agree. A large part of me likes the whole one thread per complaint vs 100 threads about the same thing. Like anything Egi-glamour related would be nice to have in one place (like how we have the show your support threads) to upvote posts and keep the same thought in one place. If you have 5 new threads a day on egi-galmours then you end up with the same clogged forums but with ideas scattered apart from one another. I'd much rather see a thread necro'd in this case.

But trolling has no place and should absolutely be dealt with.

He's now outright making political threads. If he can get away with that, he can get away with anything.

But the problem can stem from the fact that the game has aged 7 years now, much of what has been said about a topic years ago could be entirely out of date. And it often leads to an awkward conversation as people start replying to posts made years ago and will inevitable never get a reply.

The thing with a public forum is you're not directly communicating with people, you're posting ideas or replies for all to view.
People can look upon this information and provide their own input. This doesn't need to have a time limit to it.
Limiting discourse via a time limit doesn't seem like a great idea in any case, especially when people just deem some arbitrary limit to it.

Better to have a conversation with people then a conversation with a old statement.
