To be fair to Tera or EA games like SWTOR, they're free to play and thus their cash shops /are/ how they generate revenue and thus you can't really compare them to a game that has a sub-only model. Likewise while I hate EA a good deal SWTOR's pricing model has gone from outrageously horrendous with actual critical game functions locked behind their sub wall to at least passable ever since new management took over the MMO. Management that unsurprisingly saw that bleeding everyone dry in a bid to reap ALL the money was far less effective than simply pushing people to spend $5 max to get the preferred status to skip most of the jank. Cosmetics are still expensive, their housing cosmetics especially, but it's where you'd expect it to be now for a F2P MMO.

I do agree with you about ESO and would add on that even against other P2P MMO's that FF14's cash shop really seems to be toeing the industry standard. A look at WoW's cash shop shows pretty similar prices for all-character unlock mounts and we all know the hell that is ESO's Crate system to get many of their cosmetics. Comparatively FF14's really isn't that bad at all.

I bring Tera into it because it's a worst shop and has VERY evil designs to how it makes it's money. The way their loot box system is designed is flat out evil. I bring them into the convo because the people who scream and moan about FFXIV's store need to see true evil. We don't have loot boxes and while some items can be a tiny bit high ... you get the item 100% of the time. no loot boxes, no stupid unfair greedy loot tables, not pointless stupid items in said loot tables that reset the chances of you getting the actual jacket you wanted making you buy even more loot boxes....! We can have that. But instead we get a very fair and just system. Buy the item, get the item. But that's why I put Tera in there.. because they are worst then EA. ESO would be the worse and is up there tho because ye--ah.

NOOOOOOPE! lol. See I really only mention Tera because thats the mmo I played for 4 years before I came here. It was also my first mmo. I was there from the beginning and quit a few months after they put the Rocker outfit in the game. That's around the time the loot boxes started added useless things to the loot table to force you to buy more boxes because getting an item reset the chances or whatever. So I speak from experience and pain. Tho DCUO might be worst but I've never played it.. and with how you mention it...... ye---ah I'mma stick to XIV. No loot boxes or stupid loot tables to play. Just... see and buy.

Interesting. Cuz DCUO was my main MMO for a long time before converting to FFXIV. 4 years ago, they introduced Time Capsules, a fancy alternative for loot boxes. It was ok for a while. But then they went full retard and locked progression/skill points behind them. Years later their Time boxes are still going strong, each one dumber than the last, even more loot added to collect skill points from to the point where they have become P2W.

Now I played Tera a little bit to and really liked it. Never would have thought Loot boxes would slither their way into Tera though.

They always slither their way into mmos that are either too grindy or launch with no endgame...or both. Those mmos tend to fail so hard that they need to introduce bullshit gambling mechanics to make any kind of profit.

sounds like it did the same thing Tera did T.T We have been abused. :c Well atleast with loot boxes. I don't remember Tera putting points in their cash shop, but if they do I wouldn't put it past them. Why are game companies so mean to us? :c Like just give us good games and we'll stay and play. I promise you.

The Mogstation leaves much to be desired though. Mostly consisting of seasonal event items from events you missed. All the outfits aren't terribly exciting either: half of em from npc's that are no longer wearing them or are no longer around to wear em, the other half being original designs but kinda bland looking. Then there are the two pairs of outfits from other FF titles. They should do MORE of that.

We then have the highly disturbing lack of weapon bundles. This one really gets me down, cuz when I go into a cash shop I head over to the weapons section first to see what they've got, see how cool they look, and am somewhat pleased. Mogstation's is extremely pitiful. All you've got are: 1) Scythes 2) all of the Heavensward weapons 3) FFXIII weapons. That's it. No weapons for any other job in that shop, not even my dear Rouge Ninja. Disgraceful.

Only 24 mounts and they're meh. I bought the cloud though. (the motorcycle might be next)

Everything else I don't care about. The Mogstation could deeeeeeeeeeefinitely stand to get more shit, either original designs and/or from the game itself, or from other FF titles and/or Square games. But if there are money/ licensing issues that I don't know about, then I guess that's that.

FF14's cash may not be that bad at all, but for what it has to offer, it's pretty bad.

The thing with outfits is that they've mastered the art of putting one or two really good utility pieces in each set. There are a number of items that are mostly appealing for the boots, hair decorations or a skirt you can't even see on the full-costume preview. Your opinion may vary on whether this is a good thing or a shameless money grab.

As to weapons, there is indeed a puzzling lack of them, particularly given that there are a number of unique NPC weapons that match costumes already sold in the shop.

Y'shtola's BLM staff from Shadowbringers is being sold now - separately to the outfit and equippable by both genders - and I can only hope they do the same for other weapons at some point. Particularly her WHM staff as there is a general lack of low-level glamours that don't use the tree-branch aesthetic.

(Yes, before anyone brings it up, it would be nice if they let you acquire it in-game. But that seems highly unlikely.)
