Except just implementing a simple raffle system would fix the entire issue. There's no need to revert to the old way of doing things and a raffle system would achieve basically the same result without all the fuss.

Any new system needs to 1) reward those who spend the most time on the mechanic, 2) allow people without much time to either spend small chunks of time over many days or get an opportunity to get lucky. The current system allows for both.

Although the current system works like a raffle (where you get your entries back to back). Generally speaking people who ask for raffles in housing are expecting something that completely removes point 1). Like say, requiring one or a handful of entries per plot. It's just not going to happen as it breaks the design.
If you want to allow people to get an entry every 10mn for the raffle, well that's the same as just asking to have the timers release in 10mn intervals on the hour. Which is a suggestion many have made and that doesn't require a rework for the devs.

So... How about random sale? Basically have it so that a plot is for sale for a week upon first payment, during this period everyone can put money into the plot and when the time is up a random player is given the plot and everyone else are re-founded.

No you're wrong. I pay to have services and housing is one of them. Everyone is entitled to have a house. You must own a house, that"s why you don't care about others. If you don't have one, you"re selfish and masochist.

I personally love the raffle idea, but I still think if we had the ability to garden in apartments, and just BIGGER apartments in general, it’d wouldn’t be such a mess.

There is so much content and personalization in housing that expecting players to give up on it because of how hard getting a house is almost as ridiculous as the effort itself to get one.

I don't recall asking for SE to design a housing system based on an insanely limited number of plots. I also don't recall asking SE to add in a random timer once the home demolishes. I certainly never asked for a ward system (that is just about ALWAYS empty). Other MMOs manage to bring housing to ALL players just fine, but for some reason XIV just can't manage that.

I mean, sure, if you're content with the system, that's all fine. We're all allowed our own opinion and take on the matter. However, lets not pretend that this system is anywhere near ideal. This is a theme park MMO, and as such, everyone should have access to the same rides and attractions. But we don't. It is most definitely NOT a luxury item that should only be available for a small percentage of the playerbase. At this point, getting a house mainly boils down to being in the right spot at the right time. It's not some amazing accomplishment.

And I say this as a homeowner. I would burn my house down in a heartbeat if we could bring on proper housing for everyone.

Apartments are also rather poor, esp in comparison to houses,and were also unchanged since implementation. Might as well live life in Eorzea as a hobo

I have a house already. Doesn't make the housing situation any less horrible. And as mentioned, apartments are rather lacking. You don't have gardening, and if you would have opted for the FC option, you don't have workshops or private chambers.

I really do wonder about people who react to these topics in such aggressive ways. Like...are you not wanting the game to improve? Are you happy that only a tiny percentage of players will have a house? Have you never played another MMO that has equal housing for all?

I do want the game to improve, but repeating the same things on the forums over and over again has not, and likely never will, lead to improvement.

And yes, I have. PSO2 gives players their own houses. I'd like to see something like that implemented in FFXIV, but given the game's spaghetti code leftovers from 1.0, that probably won't happen for quite some time. In the meantime, those without houses have options: keep trying to get a house, get an apartment, or do without.
