It's a problem because FFXIV is a casual oriented game where most of the playerbase doesn't really care about the challenge in PVE or the competitive aspect of PVP.

This is the same reason why Ultimates are still locked behind item level sync. If they weren't, a large part of the population wouldn't even attempt to learn those fights and just face roll them after they became easier, just to reap the rewards.

If PVP mounts weren't time gated, the Feast would be even more dead than it is now. Most casuals who are tryharding in it just because they are interested in the mounts or the achievements would just buy them from the mog station or by farming the wolf marks from frontlines while they watch Netflix.

I don't have any attachment to any mount anymore. I'm glad I got the regalia, I'd love it if they either 1 made the event that gave that mount always on, like a side quest that can always be done at any time, after a certain milestone is met maybe, or two just made the event happen at least once a year so people how missed it can get it. That or just put it on the cash shop.

PVP mounts or rewards ( if previous ones are anything to go by) are just not lucrative enough for me to want to pvp, and therefore I have already wrote off any desire to get them. I pvp'ed up until early 5.0, and said I'm through. It is awful, it needs to be taken back to formula, the people who are responsible for it need to be willing to accept that it is horrible, and either be re-assigned to some other area of the dev process, or truly in every way completely do away with the current form of it, and by that I mean all maps, the entire system, wolf's den etc, just completely get away from it, 100% destroy it, and rebuild from the ground up, the entire "reason" for pvp never sat well with me either, and I never liked Wolf's Den. Explore maybe the idea of people pvp'ing on behalf of the empire, or factions of the empire even.

PVP needs to be PVP tho, not annoy your opponents while they click on flags or whatever else. Sure that can be like 1 kind of map, but 90% of the pvp in the game is this way and it is annoying. As in not entertaining, but rather extremely annoying. Not WoW style capture the flag either, if I want that, I'll go play WoW. And pro-tip, I haven't played WoW in longer than probably half the player base has been able to walk. Maybe more than half. WoW is annoying.

The only game to really do PVP right that I have personally played (read, that I have personally played) was Ultima Online, and it too, in its current incarnation, is trash garbage. There truly is a whole copy of the game world people can travel to that is flagged as non-consensual pvp. The objective is basically live. You get double resources if you go lumber jacking/mining, there are items which can increase a character's maximum skill level locked behind now laughably easy "champion" spawns, but the threat is other players. It always was, and is to this day possible for you to put all the work into fighting the champion just to have a rival or guild of rivals show up and kill you, take your gold and finish the champ spawn and get the items you were there to farm for. You can possibly mount a counter attack and get the goodies back, or just bring a thief in and steal something possibly, but that game was truly in a league of its own in this regard. This was not always the case, when that was the only style of play the game nearly collapsed and it was the pve version of the world that saved the game from extinction. It's hobbled along to this point some 23'ish years now, maybe longer. But there was always the chance you'd log in and the moons aligned perfectly and you could just go do a champion spawn, get the items, and leave without seeing 1 other person in the entirety of your time there. Today most servers are dead husks, and the pvp is all automated, your character essentially a spread sheet you just try to get near your opponent and hope the stats outweigh the other guy's stats and win. So going for a case study of what made it tick now is probably not a good idea. You'd have to just look at the concept and steal ideas away from it, and you'd do much better off just asking yourself about this kind of pvp in FFXIV versus what's there. I do not like the idea of just queue'ing up for pvp as it is now. You hit queue, appear in a field with a bunch of randos there for experience points and tomes, regardless of if you win or not you get experience and tomes, and nothing in the game world changes. You aren't really better. You can't go adjust your gear to get an edge, you just show up at level 30 and yeah everybody else is level 30.. and hope the people you appeared on some random team with on a random map ate breakfast and slept the night before and aren't automated wall runners, there for xp and on the phone with their ex trying to salvage what's left of an on and off again relationship while mouth breathing in discord with someone they secretly hate.

I guess what I mean to say is nothing about pvp in this game is engaging, interesting or enjoyable. The rewards do no stir me to queue up for it. It's dead and gone. The enjoyable things that were are no more. I'm not demanding any changes be made, but I recommend the whole thing be utterly scrapped or quit wasting your time with it and just completely rebuild it. From scratch. Don't add a new map to the current formula, don't just change a few potencies or retool additional abilities.. just totally toss the whole system out the window and rebuild. It needs it if you want to engage people. Like completelyd o away with the level 30 idea, completely do away with little roulette style pvp with no impact on the world, don't try to lure people into with cutesy little animal mounts or house deco. Just get real with it. Sorry to derail the thread, but had to just blurb that out there.

That just means that PvP is just bad. How would adding mounts to the item shop kill something that's already dead?

Adding the rewards to the shop would just mean the item would be more accessible to the casual player base that wouldn't even touch PvP in the first place, plus it means more money for the game.

Making it accessible in some other means just means that more players would actually do PvP.

Also having the word casual and tryharding in the same sentence doesn't really make sense. A casual would never hit top 100s because they're casuals.

If the mounts were obtainable through wolf marks, people would do frontlines, not Feast.

I haven't played Feast in a long time, but I actually played it a lot during its first 4 seasons, before it got changed.

During the first 2 seasons, mounts as a rewards weren't introduced yet, and the PVP community was very small. That's when they tried to attract more players into the PVP scene by making exclusive mounts from season 3 onwards.
Quite a few new players started playing because of it - thanks to the Garo event as well - and the queues got shorter, making the Feast a more enjoyable experience overall since you didn't have to wait for hours to get a match.

Now mind you, I think trying to attract more players by giving them a carrot on a stick is a terrible idea.
But due to the state of the game, I think that's a necessary band-aid for ranked PVP.

The problem lies, in my opinion, in the playerbase itself. FFXIV is a casual game and as such attracts casual players. The amount of people who actually enjoy being challenged and being better than others is really small, even more so in the PVP scene.
No competitive PVP mode will ever be successful in this game, no matter how good it is, because the playerbase simply isn't interested in being competitive.

Cool give Feast a currency, make the mount require a lot of that currency like over 100 wins like for example ex totems.

Boom easy lots of new feast players. You're welcome I unkilled PvP.

As you said before if the casual base is too scared to touch pvp, nothing would make them touch PvP. Letting them straight out buy it for lets say 38 bux, will just rake in more money for SE which means a better game for everyone else.

In my opinion pvp is just complete trash due to all the latency and gameplay issues and I would never suffer through that garbage, but I'd spend a good 40 bux or something on the mount

I wouldn't be against a system where you could get old mounts by getting into the top 100 of the current season and get the current mount + a currency you could collect to buy old mounts.

If it was just about wins though, I feel like many people would exploit wintrade in lower ranks - and in general it wouldn't feel like an achievement, just a grind.

We got wintrading in higher ranks whats your point lmao

Do games played then make it obtainable some how. More people will play PvP if there was a grind.

Doing this will BRING PEOPLE TO PvP instead of having a season that no one plays after a week

I find it very hard to believe since back when I played the people who systematically wintraded dozens of games always got banned.
I can understand if people throwing a couple of games to a friend who is in their promos don't get banned, but those who do it on a regular basis eventually get banned.

Earning items or titles by proving to be one of the best 100 players in your datacenter at something is not gatekeeping, even crafters and gatherers have leaderboards nowadays. Why can't PVP players have one?
