Regarding Firmament Titles For 5.3

That is the plan. "If you graduated in season 1 you do NOT have to participate again". They ended up not going back on this. All they did was add new achievements. Meaning you in no way have to/need to participate again

I guess the important point here is if you can participate again, or if the leaderboard will simply ignore people who already have the title. Some people will want the achievement even if it provides no benefit, so do they end up taking title spots even if they don't want to?

On the other hand, the leaderboard will last only a short time (the previous round was 10 days), but the achievements are presumably available until 5.4 hits. So if you're worried about depriving someone of a title, why not wait until the leaderboards have closed?

Out of curiosity, how would you feel if the achievement reward 0 points (that's something that WoW has done on occasion depending on the achievement type)? Would the achievement become less interesting or even completely irrelevant to you?

That is an interesting question. If it was on the list as an invisible achievement (kinda like the Rhyme & Region 2018 achievements) and worth 0 points, I'm pretty sure I can get my broken brain to not care about it. If it was a 0 point achievement like the ones under Character > Commendation tab, where I would see it greyed out if it wasn't complete, I would care.

I say this knowing that invisible point based achievements I have not gotten yet do bug me a lot. I'm currently missing a lot of the invisible ranked PVP achievements where it's eating at me that I have not gotten them yet. If those were also worth 0 points... I think I wouldn't care nearly as much.

I think this is just a small sacrifice that'd be made. Yes it's /another/ achievement to chase, but I highly doubt the number of players that'd fall in this category is anywhere near substantial enough when paired with "no new titles." The larger playerbase was more concerned with the titles, and I think working to appease those concerns mattered/matters more. It's unfortunate to those that care about achievements, but it saves the sanity and sleep of more players whilst still addressing their attempt to walk back on their earlier word.

It's not, just like Feast ranking achievements or seasonal events. I have the achievement for Beata on first season, but nothing for Saint.

Glad they are keeping the titles the same, now I don't have to fret over "do I do this again or no?". Kind of bummed about the achievements, but not enough that I'll go for Top 12 again. I just can't do it, not for achievements. Good luck to all of you who are going for the Top 12 this season!

You don't. They send you a special item trough Moogle Post after ranking is done, using which unlocks (basically places) a special achievement unto your achievments list. The same way you can't see achievements for seasonal events you didn't participate in - they simply do not exist for you.

As for the DevTeam's decision - I'm perfectly fine by this and it's honestly pretty much what I was hoping for.

Though my heart still aches for the achievement hunters; I'm just glad I left that life behind in another MMO.
For me, this is a good solution (and what I had expected from the first announcement) so we are back on track.
