Those are for the most part done right. Neo Ishgard is a reused model like 4 times over though. Crystarium's is fine, Eden 4's is the double blade, idk what shadow one you're talking about and ultimate Anarchy is just neo ishgard, again reused model.... It's not bad for it to be a blade, it's only bad when there's no gun in it or they overdo it. Really makes me think they don't know how to go about making gunblades tbh.

That's where the problem lies. As an example, if you were designing an ice-themed Gunblade, do you just copy over the PLD weapon and add a trigger to it? It's a bit harder to make visually distinct than say for DRK, where you can just take the PLD weapon and double its size.
Tbh I had this question for what they would do for RDM's weapon and well... you can see. I think say a shiva weapon could easily be done in such a way similar to the crystalline manatrigger we have around level 74 but smoother and less jagged. Just darken the upper portion that would be "metal" and make the blade portion more icy/translucent looking. Idk, to me it would seem awesome to be the designer for these weps considering you just draw a gun portion then add a nice smooth blade to it.

To be fair, you are talking about a franchise where fashion consists of excessive amounts of belts/buckles and zippers.

Probably the best axe they ever made. It makes no sense and I love it.

I have the same problem with a good number of Dark Knight's greatswords. I wish we had more normal looking weapons for them instead of them having all this weird crap tacked onto them. :/

Preach, OP. I strongly considered making this thread myself.

Yoshida and his team went out of their way to troll Garlean gunblades as "not real gunblades" because they like the FFVIII-style, only to make almost all of their models have the trigger in the wrong place (or none at all), a stumpy blade that looks like a bayonet and not a goddamn sword, or some galaxy brain design that doesn't look like anything like a bladed weapon.

I'd rather have Garlean gunblades over any of those (the High Steel Gunblade basically is one and looks amazing), why can't they just make no-nonsense gunblades with a longsword or saber length blade and throw a revolver handle and chamber on it. It's not hard.

EDIT: Oh, and no more 8 miles of handle before you get to the blade either, more sword blade than handle. Again, it's not a bayonet.

Lore wise they don't fire actual projectiles making them different than garlean gunblades but go figure.... almost all of them have some weird "pipe" on them for this exact purpose. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind us having that style in the pool of models but ffs when it's 90% of them....

I'm also not a huge fan of the ak-47 style lil ammunition holders attached either.... Again,Titania's was a great concept for a proper gunblade, just enough of everything and not needlessly overdone. The Feast gunblade they revealed isn't too bad but again with the ak-47 "ammunition".

It's not "bad" per say but it feels unnecessary and as if they could've just designed the handle/guard better. This one at least checks out on the basic requirements..... a cylinder, an interesting blade concept that isn't oddly simple shaped, a handle that's curved proper to that of a gun, a hand guard that's actually not too bad, a hammer like a normal gun would have.... It's literally the AK-47 resemblance in it that I have to go "you could've just stopped with what you had, or just connected the guard to the handle...."

Yeah, as I mentioned Bozjan gunblades are FFVIII style, the rounds vibrate the blade to increase cutting. But yeah a bunch of the Garlean models look more like Squall's gunblade than the ones most of the GNB models are haha.

Hell, they even messed up Squall's, it's way too small.

That and they crammed the lil keychain up into the handle. Also "the rounds vibrate to increase cutting" I don't remember that but I love it and now that makes me hate our sound effects currently even more considering we had SFX more fitting to that concept lol.

XIV Gunbreaker weapons are described as emitting a range of magical effects by utilizing aetherically imbued cartridges. The vibrate the blade thing is from VIII, ours are of course clearly inspired by those, but "the rounds vibrate the blade to increase cutting" is never actually mentioned in XIV AFAIK.

I'm being a bit nit-picky I suppose, mainly because I really like the concept of a sword that you load up with spells like it's some kind of extremely stabby vancian magic wand, but think the whole explosions vibrate the blade idea is kind of silly tbh.
