Any tips for how to identify parries?

I was in a party last night and told to use my AoE skills. From what I've seen, it seems our AoE skills are mainly only available directly after parrying a blow (other than Whirlwind, which costs a huge amount of TP, or should I be focusing on Path of the Storm chains?).

The problem is, I don't know when I've parried... I've tried reading the battle log during the fight (and I know that it does say it in there whenever we at least partially parry a blow, which I also know is all that's really needed to use Fracture or Overpower) but in a hectic fight of 8 people and 3-4 mobs all fighting at once, it simply goes past too fast to be able to read it...

How do you party pro marauders use Fracture and Overpower effectively? How do you know when you've parried a blow? I've mainly just used the single target attacks, or when I've been soloing it's easier to read the battle log so I use Fracture and Overpower a lot then.

I only just got Marauder to 50 yesterday so that I could use my Ifrit Battleaxe and I really want to be able to do that weapon justice. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Please ignore my typo in the topic title, I didn't notice that until after I'd already posted it and now I can't s

Filter the heck out of your chat log. You dont need to know how much damage your party members are doing or when they or you miss etc. Beyond that there is a pretty clear animation tied to parry you should be looking for. There is also a specific sound you should make. I think my midlander says "Heh" or something lol. Go solo and familiarize yourself with that. I used to watch the log but eventually watching for the animation was enough.

If youve used Foresight you can watch for the buff to vanish as it will fade if you parry.

Also if youve got stoneskin up its still possible to "parry" but youll never see the animation. I dont think that will even show up in the log but im certain it happens as ive "checked" with fracture and it has gone through.

Pretty sure it was mentioned we will be getting more obvious indicators down the road.

Edit: oh, come to think of it maybe the "Heh" was when i evade... not sure if im remembering right as i havent parried in weeks!

Thank you very much, I'll try all of those tips ^_^ Especially the filtering one, I really should've thought of that. Hopefully we will get more obvious indicators down the road as you say though (like if the icons are only available when they're usable, and greyed out the rest of the time like timers are supposed to work).

Does anyone know the name of the filter category that parrying falls under? For example, is that something successfully done by you or something unsuccessful by the enemy? I'll log in tomorrow and see what can be seen...

Recognising the animation associated with the parry might be a little harder, but I'll do a bunch of solo work tomorrow and work on learning that too. Hopefully she will make a unique sound, but if that's just for evading that won't help much. I've relied too much on the slow log when soloing and allowed myself to get lost in pure TP moves when in parties, your tips should make me a much better MRD ^_^

Recognizing animations as visual queues is actually a large part of playing this game successfully. They're like little hints, for example, Ifrit has tells for each special attack before it's used, allowing players to get an edge on running away from certain abilities.

MRD's tell is very easy to pick out once you see the animation. Like you plan, just take some time to go out and familiarize yourself with certain animations. Fracture is an amazing skill to have for longer fights.

Like Belial said, just look for the animation. It's really easy to spot as your character picks up his/her axe as a shield and blocks a move. You can also notice that you take very little damage when you do parry, so the number should pop up like 0-10 damage.

On top of all that, they are also giving us a light up on reaction abilities soon, and it's coming really soon!

Thanks! I looked for the animation and recognised it as soon as I tried. The way Crystal holds the axe in front of her body is quite obvious if you're looking for it ^_^ The lighting up of abilities will still be great though.
