Her/his justification is valid. Spriggan is/was a dead server, you don't play there so it doesn't affect you?

Same situation was on Zodiark and Twintania. Covid changed that slightly but still see open plots on a daily basis.

To be fair, I don't think it's okay to own this many plots even on less populated servers. The servers are new and will get a bigger population at some point, and then someone is just blocking plots others could use.

100%. I rather see houses being used than just sitting there.
I'm sure players on Ragnarok and other big pop servers would have a different opinion and that's perfectly fine.

Except they're not being used in the case of Spriggan...? It's a RP dollhouse village made by one person, not a ward with FCs and active people where you bump into each other in front of the marketboard and have a chat.

Did you read my post? I mentioned they wasn't used so no chat at the marketboard (which rarely happen anyways, let's be real here). If they want to decorate and have that goal (since they're a house decorator in this game, like I'm a dedicated crafter, other's might be enjoying raiding and stand afk in Limsa).

So since they weren't used aka was empty plots ready to be bought, I feel it perfectly fine they buy them to decorate them and share them, like they mentioned.

Regardless of the current population of Spriggan, there's no way to know how it will evolve in the future (especially with the new free trial etc) and someone owning an entire ward will cause problems once it becomes more populated.

That's a fair point. It's impossible to know however spriggan been out for nearly 1.5 year and housing haven't been exactly booming on that server. Same goes for other new worlds added since SHB. It's the same situation on Twintania on Light DC.

If you compared it to a real life situation it's an entire building owned by one person who has furnished all apartments to rent as airbnbs, when other people are struggling to find a decent place to live in despite having a job and money

This still does not address the more fundamental issue; the persistent ward system is very bad at coping with increasing player populations.

Taking NA servers for example. ~70% of the houses are owned as personals. Meaning, even if SE were to reclaim the remaining ~30% houses from legit and 'non-legit' FCs, there still wouldn't be enough houses on NA servers for every individual player.

If persistent ward housing is not meant to be for everyone, then SE needs to improve upon apartments so that they can be upgraded for gil into penthouses/condos with balconies for gardening and workshop access.

Botting is only a problem when houses aren't available. There's no need to use a bot when you can walk right up to a plot and purchase it.

When the 3 wards were added in 5.1, most worlds had houses available for weeks in both the new and old wards. It was only after they were all sold that the bots reappeared.

You're right, it is. But it's the only solution they have right now that can be implemented on relatively short notice so that's what they're going with. It's not going to solve the real problem but at least it will give more players the opportunity to own a house.

Do they have better solutions they've been working on in the background that aren't ready for implementation? We don't know and never will unless they're implemented. Ishgard has the feeling of something new being added to housing but we won't see exactly what we're getting until sometime next year.

Have we considered the idea that maybe the goal is not to ensure every player has a fair chance of getting a house?

It's a supply/demand balance, but maybe the intent is to always have more demand than supply.
