I'd prefer we get some alternative playstyles for current classes. Yes we have a lot but there is only one way to play them. Every Samurai is exactly the same etc...
My money would be that we get atleast 3 more classes

1-2 more per expansion up til a certain point (7.0/8.0). I think we'll hit a point where certain jobs are close to being reskins of others though that mine Final Fantasy nostalgia. Not completely 1:1, but similar enough that they can be balanced in tandem. For example, unless they make them limited jobs, I think a future Beastmaster or Puppetmaster would play similar to 5.0 Smn. Off-gcd and instant cast pet actions (in addition to an auto), gcd weapon actions for the caster, an overdrive/sic type action similar to trance, actual skins for the pet etc.
Since they've added trusts like FFXI, reaching the end of the MSQ they planned so far (6.0), reaching the age that FFXIV took reigns from FFXI (not counting 1.0 time), have had comments about dropping another dalamud, could benefit from some core coding changes (for like glamour log, etc) and refreshing the gameplay loop / treadmill granting a change of pace (I assume a tighter more visceral combat system with better response and flow but maybe not quite action rpg but perhaps towards their recent sRPG with still many abilities). So I'm wondering if a new mmo isn't on the winds 1-3 years from now (could be cataclysm level expansion but the handling of the story would be interesting then.. I make a guess at maybe an alternate timeline where the shards combine and that makes the new mmo setting). In which case I'll guess 3-4 normal jobs and 2 more limited jobs over the next two expansions, 5.5 for the limited job and 6.0 with two jobs and the big story finale to send off FFXIV with closing chapters. And at least another one after it's already been sent off like FFXI (with the patches and such), I would guess perhaps to another planet (since we've got the dragons and Omega and stuff- so a lot of TLC and long term content and a job or two). Expansions after that based on demand.
Personally really would like to see SE create a fully fleshed out transformation based job, I feel the visual and lore vibe could be really awesome. Especially if they are inspired by their sRPGs they've made. (Fully meaning not simply a limited/mini game side content- not saying that can't be fun but I want to see the whole enchilada not the happy meal size lol)

I expect two more for 6.0. After that I reckon they'll probably only add one proper job per expansion, citing the work it takes to update all the old ones as the reason.
Probably a few more limited jobs too, I live in hope they'll revamp that whole system into something more worthwhile.
2 new jobs for next expansion, then 1 job per expansion until the game is shut down.

Until told otherwise, it's 2 per expansion.
I'd personally like to see eastern theme'd jobs as the next ones. I've proposed the idea of a healer centered around aura effects and thematically it could be centered around the chinese zodiac animals.
Then for casters there's a few things. My favorite would be one revolving around trickster spirits and other mischievous yokai from eastern folklore.
It depends really on how long the game goes, but I suspect that 6.0, if it gives us two jobs, will be the final expansion to do so before they cut back to 1 per expansion. And then perhaps eventually 1 every other expansion or just none at all.
Uhm what? No where has it been stated that 6.0 was the last of the msq they had planned. They said they were wrapping up the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark, and the ascians specifically, but they have gone on to assure us in various interviews that they still have more stories to tell. There’s lore threads all over that have nothing to do with Hydaelyn and Zodiark.
I think it's not likely they'll stop adding jobs. Although people have made some reasonable arguments for reaching a stopping point once we hit a certain number per role/sub-role or other criteria... the thing is, new jobs are something people get very excited for at expac time. And everyone hopes their favorite one will be added next, and so on.
If SE were to stop, I think it's safe to say it would significantly slow the hype and sales of new expansions. When FF14 goes into maintenance mode I could see that happening, but as long as it's SE's breadwinner? I don't think so.
They might possibly need to hire/transfer more than 4 people to work on job balance & design eventually, and maybe they'll need to change less about existing jobs when a new expac comes, but I can't see SE stopping before FF14 begins declining for other reasons.
For this same reason, I think one of the new jobs (and perhaps the only new job if the rate slows) will always be DPS. There will never be a "new tank, new healer, no new DPS" expansion. They'd disappoint too many people if they did that.
Honestly, I'm both happy with the current roster, but I'm also excited by the idea of new jobs. Granted, there really aren't any "missing" that really stand out to me (other than "Chemist", which I only noticed because someone suggested it on the main page). But I honestly love having those new "themes" to look forward to, and Job quests are always a ton of fun (truth be told, the lack of meaningful Job quests is the ONE THING about Shadowbringers that was kind of a letdown).
The only things that come to my mind for potential character-types not already present might be a dual-wielding Barbarian/Berzerker type of Job (dual axes?), maybe a Pet-class that uses animals instead of Summoner pets, part of me almost wonders if there would be enough precedent to split the Bard and the Archer into two distinct Jobs, with Bards uses Harps and maybe leaning more support, with Archers *JUST* dealing damage?
Beyond that, I honestly quite like the idea of some type of "Gambler" type of Job. Maybe it would have to be another "Limited Job", or maybe something heavily RNG-based could still be balanced somehow, but even just visually, I kind of dig the idea of a Job that's throwing around cards, dice, just all kinds of big Casino/Gold Saucer visuals for their moves!
